I'm not sure him not getting taken on at a club means he'll resign for us. He is, actually, unemployed come 1 June unless he's signed for someone.BWFC_Insane wrote:Why would we keep Alonso, having signed a left back?ChrisC wrote:Been reported all week that Fiorentina won't pay him what he wants and he is realising how well he was paid here.bobo the clown wrote:The first 2 I can buy, the 3rd ??? ...... Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
We're hardly talking about a Polish third division player here, are we? His best season came in the Premier League and I always make an effort to watch as many Premier League games each week as I can. I'm not sure why me knowing who he is makes you suspicious?plymouth wanderer wrote:So how do you know that Tierney is a better player than Alonso? Football manager by anychance?
And I didn't say Tierney was better than Alonso, I said he's a better defender, though apologies if that wasn't clear. I don't rate Alonso defensively and I think he'll be much more suited to an attacking role in the future. If Tierney is back to his best, which is quite a big if, then he's a hard working, talented lad.

That Gareth Bale was a left back wasn't he? Yeah. Didn't think of that did you?! Marcos 'in the hole' Alosno. Left wing FTW.

I've jokingly said that Alonso reminds me of a young Gareth Bale but I do think that he would make a better left winger.

Not necessarily.jonnybwfc wrote:Jedinak off the table, now that Palace are promoted ?
Like Alonso. He IS out of contract. Palace will need to offer (re-offer) him one and he would need to accept it.
They may decide they can do better now, he may feel he won't get a place, he may feel they will struggle and he'd be better of bailing.
I have ZERO idea what he will do, but it could easily not be quite as simple as that.

Nah he's not Bobo, that came from me misshearing a commentator saying he was out of contract NEXT summer. He's got one year left.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I think we were, but for a transfer. Can't see that now. He's been outstanding for them according to their fans and I'd be very surprised if they wanted rid. They might have to sell due to his contract situation, but I can't see that being to us now.bobo the clown wrote:So we were never lined up for him ?Prufrock wrote:Nah he's not Bobo, that came from me misshearing a commentator saying he was out of contract NEXT summer. He does have a year left.
Whether he fancies a season battling week in week out at the bottom of the Premiership over another season chasing promotion, may hinge on which of two managers he prefers working with.
Unless of course he gets offered silly money by someone.

I think I heard someone say Jedinak was Palace's player of the season. You'd think he might stay.
Maybe there are other players who may not be in favour with Ollie and might be more Championship level. If Palace are buying a new striker and some new defenders Dougie might be able to pick up someone he knows from those positions.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I reckon talk of Jedinak now absolutely sits proud on the "nothing to see here" thread.
Don't see why anyone from any of the promoted teams would want to do another season in this division.
If nowt else, there's a much wider shop window in the Prem. Then there's seeing if you're up to the task of being a Prem player. Unless he'd been shit and Palace wanted rid, can't see it meself.

Just shown on SSN the cost of the Palace team promoted yesterday. It was a huge 2.15 million!
It will be interesting to see what Dougie does with the extra money he will have here.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Just watched the Champo play-offs. Wanted to want Palace to lose solely so we'd have a better chance of getting Jedinak (or, as Jonathan F*ckin Pearce insisted on calling him, "Jidenach"), but my heart wasn't in it: I know a lot more Palace fans and I'm not keen on Watford's modus operandi.
Interesting to spend a few minutes looking at Palace's out-of-contract players via the usually reliable Transfermarkt. I'm sure Dougie will be aware of who's available and will be waiting to see who Palace offer extensions to as they rebuild for the top flight. The players currently out of contract this summer are:
Lewis Price: Wales international GK (28) signed in summer 2010 when DF was assistant manager. Well-regarded bench-dweller, but GKs not a priority unless DF wants to move Lonergan on
Peter Ramage: Geordie centre-back signed by Freedman on a 12-month contract last August. Has played 40 league games so will fancy his chances of staying, but if they opt to strengthen at centre-back it wouldn't be a shock to see DF interested, if we can move some of ours on.
Danny Gabbidon was a DF signing last August. Certainly experienced, albeit more Division One than in Division Two, but not sure we need a centre-back who's 34 in August
Paddy McCarthy: centre-back, club captain, been there since 2008, just turned 29. Missed all this season with a groin injury having missed half the 2008/09 and 09/10 seasons with shoulder injuries. Hmm.
Matt Parsons: Attacking left-back, academy graduate. Played a sporadic half-dozen games under DF, has since been on loan at Wycombe.
Alex Marrow: Tyldesley-born 23-year-old defensive midfielder. Signed by DF four days into the Palace job, but hasn't established himself. Loaned to Preston and latterly Fleetwood, I'm sure he'd love to join us but he may not DF's top choice in defensive midfield.
Owen Garvan: 6ft Irish midfielder, 25, at Palace since 2010. Played a fair few times under DF, near 250 Division 2 appearances. Has already been linked with us by the Daily Mail.
Andre Moritz: another DF signing last August on a 12-month. 6ft 1.5in Brazilian attacking midfielder (with Italian citizenship). Played 27 league games this term so again, he's theirs to keep but we might sniff around if they don't act quickly.
Aruna Dindane and Stephen Dobbie were Ollie striker-signings which didn't turn out as well as Kevin Phillips.

He can't sprint. That's pretty important for a winger.SmokinFrazier wrote:If we're going to keep Alonso we should push him up the pitch as a left winger, which we desperately need. Tierney is a better defender than Alonso and in the long run, left wing should be Alonso's best position. I like the sound of him on the left with Tierney behind him.
If he's not good enough at left back (which is his position), don't play him at all. I'm not into this moving players about if they can't do the job they're supposed to do.
Like people advocating Ream in midfield. It's bollocks.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Yep too slow for a winger, talented enough to play left mid though. Anyway looks like Fiorentina have upped their offer. He was never going to re-sign anyway and part of me doesn't really want him to. Like Elmander 6 months of decent form does not justify our overall outlay and it just irritates me that they start looking elsewhere to continue their late good form.boltonboris wrote:He can't sprint. Not that I blame them logically of course and I wish them both well, but being a football fan would be rubbish if we took balanced and fair viewpoints all the time.

Firstly, I agree with the point about Alonso.. he isn't a winger so long as there's a hole in my ar*e! But i disagree with you about changing positions in general. A lot of younger players start of in certain positions but has they grow and develop they become better suited to other postions such as Bale (LB > LM), Walcott (RM > ST) and Michael Ricketts (ST > Wank*r). Ream's an interesting one.. one of our quicker defenders, decent with the ball at his feet (when he gets time and not rushed) and is one of the poorer headers of the ball. This would naturally suggest that he may be better suited playing in centre mid or in front of the back for rather than in defence IMO.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Bale was a winger who was playing left back.
And Ream being one of our quicker defenders doesn't make him quick. He's still runs like a slug towing a caravan through quicksand with the handbrake on
