Just a thought
With the new lofthouse statue due this year it really saddens me that the lifes of 33 Bolton people and over 400 seriously injured are cast aside there as never been a tribute to my knowledge and certainly no mention on this date at any of our matches alright granted this was in 1946 but they are still Bolton people and once more Bolton supporters look at other clubs that have suffered the same Liverpool Rangers Manchester united all pay tribute and never forget.
Just a thought but the closest game to this date 09/03 each year we should as fans have a tribute in the 33rd minute and somewhere on our shirts there should be a small 33 it would also be nice to have some kind of large memorial on the memorial walk Bolton are planning with all the people who lost there lifes being mentioned.
RIP THE 33 and god bless i for one will never forget.

True, but I think we can do a bit better than a plaque on a supermarket wall.

Re: Just a thought
In the (early? mid?) 90s we lashed a plaque up on the Normid wall. When they razed the ground they relocated it to the Asda built in its place.

We could, but I'd hate to join the mawkish set and become small time Scousers.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I'm in the same boat as Bobo. Liverpool might aswell incorporate a black band on their kit each season. I'd hate us to be like them. Before we knew it, we would be having a minutes silence for Zat Knights cat popping its clogs!

Re: Just a thought
The 96. The 33. That sort of thing reduces those that died to just a number. There was a memorial service on the sixtieth anniversary, I'm sure there have been others. To have a small 33 on the football shirts would be a triviality - so let's not. Just my opinion.
That's not a leopard!

Unreal 33 lost and 400 injured and all Bolton people comments say it all really

Re: Just a thought
Does it really? The way people choose to remember people is their own choice. You would choose to turn these people into a number while others would rather keep them as a name and have a proper memorial service every x amount of years.alpeters wrote:Unreal 33 lost and 400 injured and all Bolton people comments say it all really

I've always thought that the disaster should be recognised more publicly but we definately shouldn't go down the route of numbers on shirts, that's just commercialising grief.
However it would be appropriate for the players to wear black armbands and to observe a minute's silence before kick-off at the home game nearest the tragedy, if only to educate those BWFC supporters who don't know anything about the disaster.
This publication is well worth a read. The title says it all: http://library.la84.org/SportsLibrary/S ... sh181i.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There's also a radio documentary on the subject: http://bufvc.ac.uk/tvandradio/lbc/index ... 1800598001" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But 33 is such a good number. It'd be a shame to waste it.bobo the clown wrote:Yes ..... really.alpeters wrote:Really ?bobo the clown wrote:We could, but I'd hate to join the mawkish set and become small time Scousers.

Re: Just a thought
Next year will be 68 years since the tragic incident. We have dealt with this, as a club, quietly and with dignity. Maybe in those days, only a year after a 6 year global war life was tougher and,horribly, a little cheaper. Certainly less in-your-face media.BL3 wrote:I've always thought that the disaster should be recognised more publicly but we definately shouldn't go down the route of numbers on shirts, that's just commercialising grief.

It's fair that the club, or the town council, or both, respect this .... but to leap onto the ways of the sob-jockeys would be simply band waggoning. It's not the Bolton way, it's not what we've done before and to do it now would actually cheapen it all. The next natural opportunity would be the 70th ... or maybe 75th anniversary.
... and yes, the day we take the lead on anything, from a bunch of Scousers will be the day I give up.
Though LGM has a point. I was brought up in a house numbered 33. I may leave flowers later.

Re: Just a thought
At the end of the day we are all Bolton supporters I had family at that game so maybe I am a bit biased its just my opinion lads and lasses and I would like to see some kind of recognition at the club each year with a minutes applause in the 33rd minute on the game nearest the 9/3 is all and a 33 placed on the shirt I bleed Bolton as most of you do and everyone as there own opinion..... this is just mine...

I wasn't aware that Liverpool had exclusive rights to a minute's silence, or what relevance it has to the discussion to be honest.
