At the end of the day we are all Bolton supporters I had family at that game so maybe I am a bit biased its just my opinion lads and lasses and I would like to see some kind of recognition at the club each year with a minutes applause in the 33rd minute on the game nearest the 9/3 is all and a 33 placed on the shirt I bleed Bolton as most of you do and everyone as there own opinion..... this is just mine...

I would imagine most posters on here had a family member at that game, my grandfather was. But I think that minute's silences / applauses should be left to more meaningful anniversaries such as every ten years. I like the idea of a plaque in the memorial garden though.

Yep, my paternal grandparents were both there, in the Wing Stand.

As usual in these debates, adversarial point-scoring tends to drown out sensible comment, but again I find myself nodding along to BL3:

I've always thought that the disaster should be recognised more publicly but we definately shouldn't go down the route of numbers on shirts, that's just commercialising grief. However it would be appropriate for the players to wear black armbands and to observe a minute's silence before kick-off at the home game nearest the tragedy, if only to educate those BWFC supporters who don't know anything about the disaster.

I can understand those who wouldn't want to have a minute's silence every year, but really it's not that much to ask. Certainly there should be a memorial (small, tasteful) at the Reebok, and it would make sense to have it near the Nat statue. The Natue, if you will.

Maybe in those days, only a year after a 6 year global war life was tougher and,horribly, a little cheaper. Certainly less in-your-face media.

This is probably as close to a definitive truth on the matter as we'll get.

I do think that it would perhaps be fitting to have a more prominent memorial to those who died, but then its not going to bring any of them back, so I'm not exactly jumping up and down to see it happen.

Maybe it's because it doesn't have a wall of flowers and teddy bears and cards the height of Everest and the length of the Atlantic around it. You know, just to show how testosterone our grief is in comparison to other more mundane grief.

Whoa. It's fecking amazing how one's own prejudice blinds to what somebody else is saying. I wasn't referencing anything remotely scouse, I was referring to the ever increasing mountains of shite people leave at sites of special scientific grief interest, beginning, probably, with the tossers who showered the cortege of Diana on its journey down a motorway and culminating with grief tourists ttavelling especially to visit 'the scene' at Woolwich.
