Selling Matt Taylor wasn't the problem. We got more for him than on the last year of his contract than we spent on Eagles who was several years younger. That was a good bit of business imo.

Fact is he did only play well for half a season when other clubs were looking at him on a free, then went back to being shit for the latter part of the season. not saying it was deliberate, or even subconscious, but it's still very frustrating in terms of the club's investment.

You may have spotted, that in the second half of the season, he was moved deeper and wider to accommodate Sturridge. Not a good move by Coyle on Elmander's part.

Which is exactly what happened. He had that great half season (out of 3 years ... so not too impressive) but he was truly excellent. Maybe he was playing for a move, or maybe he'd settled, or maybe we'd found out how to use him, who knows.

His game against Newcastle when we won by a hatful he was unstoppable.

When Sturridge came in ... which no-one can dispute was a success ... he was shipped out wide. Less effective and far less happy he clearly decided then he was off come season end. It was clear he was in a sulk .... & he & Sturridge didn't like each other. I noted on a few occasions he didn't join in the celebrations when Sturridge scored. I did think right back then that we should have tested out a Sturridge/Elmander pairing up front .... but that would have had Emma on the warpath I guess.

WEST Brom are giving no encouragement to Wanderers and a host of Championship clubs eyeing up a deal for Craig Dawson.

Speculation continues to rumble on that Dougie Freedman will try to bring back the England Under-21 international next season in some capacity – but sources in the Midlands suggest the Whites are not alone in their pursuit.

Such was the impact Dawson made at the Reebok last season, a handful of Wanderers’ promotion rivals have enquired about taking him on loan.

Freedman has kept a firm lid on his own interest but the message coming out of the Hawthorns yesterday was that the 23-year-old centre-back will return for pre-season training with Steve Clarke’s squad at the end of the month and would be considered part of the Scot’s first-team picture.

I dont understand why we're spending so much time woo'ing Beckford to be honest... his stats are hardly great or good to be honest, more tepid like a cup of tea that's been sat in a shadey area for about 45 minutes.

If we can get Beckford for around the 1 million mark then I would like to see him come in. Will get double figures in our side no problem. Did well for Huddersfield last season in an almost relegated side. Dougie use to play with him aswell so can hopefully get the best out of him.

Ricketts 2001-02 stats look better when you consider he was sold in January. Oh what might have been.

anyway, its not necessarily the end of the world if we do or don't sign Beckford - in '95 the scoring was generally shared around the team and we went up through the play offs, in 96-97 Blake and McGinlay smashed in over 60 between them, and we went up as champions. its how the team operates thats the key.

I would like to see Dawson, but whats the sketch at WBA? Surely a young promising defender is someone they'd like to hold onto? Are they just chancing their arm to see if they can get some wedge, if not keep?

My feelings on Dawson and WBA are that Clarke likes him but not enough to break up what he sees as his first choice CB partnership. He probably thinks Dawson is likely to come into the team after Olsson and McCauley are past it.

Agree on most of the above, including the frequent on field spats. I am going to dispute, the bit I'm told I can't dispute, that Sturridge was a success. He was a success for himself. For the team, we went downhill in terms of team performance and points per game. I'm sure from memory, quite a few other stats went South too.

I have seen him 3 times playing for Jamaica and I must tell you, he is not a good player at the international level. It would be a big gamble if we bought him.
