Re: The athletics/running thread
Did my first open water Aquathlon last night.
500m swim followed by a 5.5km run
Time was 39:35 overall
I was 25th out of 33 in the swim and 9th out of 33 in the run.
Think I need to up my swim game.

Might make my parkrun debut at leverhulme Park this Sat. Never manage to get up that early after usual Friday beers. Just booked a holiday and got a gut to drop though.

Haha! It's horrible, and they've now changed the course to make us go up it twice. Affectionately known as 'Spooky Hill' to we harriers natives, on account of the tree canopy and the fact we used to do hill reps up it in the twilight. Bet they don't these days, elf n safety gone mad innit?Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Might make my parkrun debut at leverhulme Park this Sat. Are we back to you sitting on fences?

Are you insinuating my running is so rubbish I have to sit and take a breather? (Cos you would be right...)Gary the Enfield wrote:Gooner Girl wrote:Gary the Enfield wrote:

The only fell round here is the South Downs, you and Harry should come and run up it! Nice view of Brighton from the top!

See now you've got me worried. I'll have a go anyway. Just struggled round a pedestrian 3.5miler and felt shocking. I'll put it down to breaking in new trainers.Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:Haha! It's horrible, and they've now changed the course to make us go up it twice. It's the Horwich Carnival 5k races on Sunday including the British Masters' Championship race, so that should be good to watch and catch up with a few old faces (literally in the vets' race!). Couple of beers watching mates run and providing moral support.

Don't worry. Just get it over with and set a marker for next time. The point of the Park Run is to show improvement so don't go blasting off or you'll set yourself too hard a target for next time. Apart from Cruella there is a nice downhill and two long flat sections so just enjoy.
HG I did the open 5k two years ago at the Horwich Carnival. Really enjoyed it. The cycling was crazy and that corner of Chorley Old Road and Winter Hey Lane saw some near disastrous crashes.
Anyway, Bedford Sprint Tri for me on Sunday. 400m swim, 24k bike and 5k run

Got food poisoning (mild version) from a dodgy prawn yesterday and have got another hill race tomorrow. I just hope I've stopped dry heaving by then.

Thankfully it wasn't a both-ender episode. Just coming out the top end. When I say 'watching 2 lads', I mean watching the Two Lads fell race (just for clarification!).
