They seem particularly understaffed in defence last season (and he'll be playing a back four) so maybe he'll buy Mears, Ream, Mills and Knight... :D

In all seriousness it's hard to imagine who would rather play for him than Dougie, except those out of favour under the current gaffer –Mears leaps to mind. Ream is somewhat out of the picture but, as the BN reports today, played either side of the Dawson loan. That may have been born of necessity but he's arguably ahead of Mills, who would probably rather rejoin Brian McDermott at Leeds, while Wheater must wonder what's going on next.

It's possible to make a case for other Coyle signings wanting to flit – he does have a close relationship with Eagles, although you wouldn't expect a sideways move rather than a promotion to a Premier side – but under Dougie many seem to have fitted in (Andrews was praised for holding off his operation) or improved (Pratley, Ngog).

Yeah, wondered about him. Maybe, just maybe, he'd rather play for Coyle than Freedman. Did he ever find a pen?

Not that I am aware of. A verbal agreement is all I have read.

Read the first two paragraphs of this 2011/12 interview with OC and tell me it doesn't make your blood boil ever so slightly

I thought Mears was doing ok under Dougie until he got glandular fever. I don't think he was avaailable the last few months. I'd say he's more likely to sign Ricketts than Mears, who had some bad games but got some unwarranted stick at times.

Yeah, you might be right: Mears played more than a dozen games for DF. He came on as sub in Dougie's fourth game, Barnsley at home, and started the next eight league games for which he was available (he was suspended at Huddersfield). His appearances started to get erratic at about the time Alonso came to prominence, with Ricketts switching to the right. This is also about the time that we got good, so Mears remains more wedded to the negativities of the past than the possibilities of the future – albeit not as much as Ream, whose last start was at Watford, after which we went eight games without loss.

I'm just thinking that OC has signed Mears twice and might reckon he'll get more mileage out of him than Ricketts, who's 18 months older. That said, Sam is more versatile.

Wouldn't be sorry to lose either of them, adequate at this level but no more than that. Mears is the better bet like you say.

Yeah, "Wouldn't be sorry" feels about right - neither is terrible, both could play well, but if DF's happy to let them go I wouldn't be weeping.

You READ a verbal agreement ???

Not worth the paper they aren't written on ... I've told you ... at great length.

I'm worried. ( << that's me panicking, that is).
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

I believe he's put a bid in for the "O. C. super white army" banners that hung from the Reebok stands. He only needs to paint "Blue and" on them and they'll be reet. I'd give em for nowt if he takes Ream aswell.

Seriously Garty needs to get on the phone to Whelan, commiserate with him about his leg, and then start making him BOGOF type offers.
Add in a bit of Coyle-style flattery about what a great owner/chairman he is and it'll be a done deal.

You sure about this ? I think Mears is the biggest waste of skin we currently have at the moment, If Coyle comes in for him, I'll drive him there myself, and that includes a round trip from North Wales.

IMHO hes worse, football is all about opinions and I haven't seen Mears do anything of any worth. Ok Knight makes the odd (ok more than odd) cock up, but he occasionally gets us out of the shit, Mears on the other hand is normally in the other half of the park slowly jogging back without a care in the world, at least Knight looks like he give a toss !

I fear if Mears if played as a wing back we'll get torn to bits down the right hand side.

The Oracle has this to say to a fellow Bolton fan when questioned about what Dougie was working on at the moment:

Young goalie. Centre half [Dawson]. Def mid. Attacking mid. Strikers x 2. Wide man. Or two.
Pfffft.

Few people are saying we are close to signing Marc Antoine Fortune. Would be surprised as it doesn't fit the Dougie way. Wait and see I suppose.
