Ainsworth Lane, having received assurances from a mate just down the street that I won't be robbed, raped or murdered

It actually looks a nice little area

The weather...

Three copies of New Left Review, two bottles of cold lager, one lounger (two if you count me) and the garden looking nice and, bless it, not needing to be mown...

Such a tough life...

Shame to be at work on a day like today... :D

That's a bit below the belt, William me lad! If I were not in the same position I'd be fuming at your arrogance.

I just did stand up comedy and made people laugh.

Full report tomorrow. But excuse me while I float on cloud nine for a bit.

We need a fuller report.

Today, and I'm not sure why this made me happy, but my day started with me listening to Liam Gallagher being interviewed after his pub band had just played The Ritz in Manchester. It was difficult to make out what he was actually on about due to all the beeps that they had to use but I picked up something along the lines of 'Beady Eye are a massive, massive rock band and that it was they that should be playing three sold-out nights at the Etihad and not that "Fat c*nt" (Robbie Williams).

Is there a bigger wanker in British entertainment than this gobshite?

So funny listening to him!

Yet his brother, who I'm sure is a tit in his own special ways, seems much more rational.

Well in my defence I was absolutely mullered when I posted that so there you go. Anyway...

I wasn't that bad during the day, nerves wise. Then it got to about six and i was terrified. Luckily the night was lovely - very act-focused and a lot of us turned up early to discuss things.

I was also scared because i was the only first timer there - everyone else was experienced, a few were even off the telly and half seemed to be going to edinburgh this year! FACKIN HELL. But everyone was really nice and supportive of each other, and everyone was trying new stuff.

Anyway I was fourth on, and was shatting it beforehand. It's really weird though - as soon as your on stage the nerves just go and you get on with it, and I remembered my set which is a bonus. There were about 20-30 in the audience, which is pretty decent for open mic. I think i held my own at least/

It was awesome too because the MCs and a few of the comics were very congratulatory afterwards and offered some advice (not speaking so fast, holding the mic properly etc) but in general said that it was strong for a first go. I was even called witty by one person! that never happens.

Also, if I could bottle up the feeling when an audience laughs at your jokes (and not at you)...god i would :D

Well done, mate - sorry I couldn't make it down to witness first hand. I had some schmoozing in the name of career advancement that I couldn't pass up.

Sounds like there will be other opportunities, however. How often do they run that night?
