We've had quite a few, including falling in the Kirby trap, but the wife reckons her Electolux Boss was the best of the lot. Lightweight, portable and effective.

Hoover, not Dyson. Dysons suck: fully plastic crap that fall apart; vortex power my arse.
The wife's Dyson works fine.......

I've alway used Imageshack for transferring pics onto here. Now it's acting up with passwords etc (which I know are right), so I joined Photobucket. Could someone explain in simple terms how I grab a pic from there and post it up here? I'd be much obliged.

If you have your pic in photobucket, enlarge it and just look on the right where it says 'direct link' - left click once and it copies it. Paste that between the [img]s

when you have uploaded your picture - go to that picture and you will see a box on the right hand side called "image links"

it gives various options - email & IM / Direct Link / HTML code and IMG Code

the last one is the one you want.

just click in the box where the URL is and it will automatically copy the code. you then simply paste (ctrl V) it into your post as is with no need to add IMG tags or anything...

(edit - Monty's method will work as well - but mine is better! )

Okay, that seems to save a step over what I suggested...

Tablets then. What's the best one to get for an IT duffer?

I want it purely as an e-reader, bit of music & stuff and storing docs/photos.

I was quite taken with a Kindle fire which looks straight forward and since I use Amazon a lot, pretty convenient.

However, tonight I've seen Carphone Warehouse are offering a free Samsung Galaxy tab 2 if you take one of their phones out on a contract (I need a new phone too  ). On their own they're a similar price to the KFs, so free with a phone looks like a much better deal. What are folks experiences?

Help!

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 ... it does everything (and more) I could expect of it. Easy and straightforward. Kindle books are simply an app ... it downloads and works perfectly.

My son has the Kindle Fire HD ... he says exactly the same of his.

I'm not sure there's that much between them tbh.

I'd advise going to a shop and try holding them. Some can be quite heavy if you're reading for any length of time. work out if you want 7" or 10" screen. If 7" then the Nexus would be a good one to go for. If 10" I like the Asus tablets, but the Samsung are ok. They were due to bring out the larger Nexus which would be good if out yet.

As for phone. Do look at Giffgaff. In the past it was often cheaper to buy the phone SIM free and use one of their rolling packages. Gives you flexibility and you aren't tied in. Worked out a few hundred quid cheaper over a 2 year period than a contract would.

Bear in mind that the Kindle Fire is an Amazon own version of an Android tablet. It has been designed to 'consume' Amazon content. Fine if that is what you want, but unless it's significantly cheaper I'd prefer the freedom of a full Android OS.
