Re: Today I'm angry about.....
We have some legislation to protect the elderly from abuse and there is a Bill (C-36) currently before Parliament to incorporate elder abuse into the criminal code. In the preamble it is stated:Harry Genshaw wrote:You know, I think you're right Worthy. I was so flamin furious I didn't stop to think that its possible the Police wont be able to charge her with anythingWorthy4England wrote:Agreeing wholeheartedly with the sentiment Harry, not sure if it's "illegal" to neglect anyone over 18, whilst you may well have a moral obligation, not convinced there's a legal one.Harry Genshaw wrote:I'm angry at the feckin witch I've come across via work. A feckless workshy bint who's been neglecting and financially abusing her 80 odd year old Father. So much so, he was eating from the bins of the local takeaway. I'd suspected it for ages and reported it a couple of times - today he finally confirmed it had been going on.
I hope the old bill throw the feckin book at her
But book should deffo be launched.
I'm surprised the UK does not have any legislation. I'll have to check.There is no common definition across jurisdictions in Canada of elder abuse;
different government departments, laws, and programs use different language to
describe the issue. However, most definitions are based on the World Health
Organization definition of “elder maltreatment” as “physical, sexual, mental and/or
financial abuse and/or neglect of people aged 60 years and older.”
The National Seniors Council, appointed by the federal government to advise on
issues related to older Canadians, noted in 2007 that “[e]lder abuse may take many
forms: financial, physical, emotional or psychological, sexual, systemic (e.g. ageism),
spiritual and neglect (either self-neglect by seniors or neglect by others).”

Protection against abuse I think we're probably covered.Montreal Wanderer wrote:This might be useful, Harry,Worthy4England wrote:Agreeing wholeheartedly with the sentiment Harry, not sure if it's "illegal" to neglect anyone over 18, whilst you may well have a moral obligation, not convinced there's a legal one.Harry Genshaw wrote:I'm angry at the feckin witch I've come across via work. Legislation against neglect - I'm not so sure - unless you are officially a "carer". Just being someone's son/daughter doesn't make you officially a carer I don't believe...

You are probably correct, Worthy. Of course if the daughter was taking financial advantage it might be different. Still, if there are no legal recourses in the UK one could name and shame them in the BN.Worthy4England wrote:Protection against abuse I think we're probably covered.Montreal Wanderer wrote:This might be useful, Harry,Worthy4England wrote:Agreeing wholeheartedly with the sentiment Harry, not sure if it's "illegal" to neglect anyone over 18, whilst you may well have a moral obligation, not convinced there's a legal one.Harry Genshaw wrote:I'm angry at the feckin witch I've come across via work. I thought that was going to end with "he remains resolutely opposed". Well done on converting him.General Mannerheim wrote:Pizza is my favourite, when its a good one theres nowt better. Pizza express calabrese ranks #1TANGODANCER wrote:My taste in food is very flexible. I can find something on almost any menu that I like. Strangely, two things I can't stand, are pizza and garlic bread. I'd have to be very hungry to eat pizza, and starving before touching garlic bread. Wife, of course, who has the weirdest taste in food, not liking chicken, pork, fish other than cod, or curry, loves both pizza and garlic bread. Has to, doesn't she?bobo the clown wrote:I'm angry at people microwaving pizza. I'm even madder at manufacturers making pizza which CAN be microwaved.
Theres a bloke at work, a bit strange and stuck in his ways... hes a traveller like me but from the north east. The other day he was deliberating what to do for tea and i suggested he come pizza express with us. He was like ‘Whaa, Pizza!? Gan te fook man. For wor tea? Fookin pizza? Noo way man pet’ etc. It turns out his only experience of pizza is of supermarket frozen deep pan tasteless shit variety, of which he’d only had the odd mottled cold slice from a buffet. He wouldn’t budge tho. But he did come to la Divinas with us (ordered a steak with f’kall else on) and i deliberately went for pizza so he could try it. it was a belter, perfect thin melt in your mouth base, a little crispy and with darkened bubbles round the edges, really tasty tomato base, chillies, succulent sausage and loaded with fresh rocket. He now comes pizza express every week!
I discovered it via a girlfriend when aged 17. I'd honestly never even heard of the word (it was a LONG time ago) and I'm dedicated to the buggers. Love it. Sometimes I get a craving & it doesn't go away until the inevitable consumption of a double pepperoni or a calzone.
Try as I might though finding a GOOD (as opposed to 'OK') home cooking one is work in progress. I suspect the oven has to be just right too.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

A pizza stone and a hot BBQ should see you right Bobo. Heat is a key element in a good pizza base and a home oven doesn't get anywhere near. You can get a pizza oven for the garden relatively cheap if you can be faffed with burning wood in the Welsh rain...

Sitting here in chalet at centre parcs as the kids nap, in shorts and vest as it was warm this morning watching the rain pelt down outside. There goes last afternoon of our holiday... Humph.

Sitting here on the sofa, sweating profusely and recovering from bringing the laundry in from the garden. Now trying to summon the courage to go and water the plants out front

I'm 6ft 5" and a bit over 16 stone. I'm not up on what size 8 is, but I'm willing to hazard a guess I'd be a bit moreGooner Girl wrote:Are you saying AT wouldn't look good in my mint gingham hot pants? Aye, but GtE is so old he forgets what I look like when he doesn't see me for a while and for some strange reason then thinks I am short, you don't need to pay attention to anything he says!Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I do believe GtE has you down as near half my height as wellGooner Girl wrote: Well you're over twice my weight so I'm guessing they might be a bit snug...
