Ernie Els has just won the German Open. He's actually quite a nice bloke really.

I don't think there has been a German Open for men for over a decade, Bruce, though there is one for ladies. Ernie won the Munich Open.Bruce Rioja wrote:Ernie Els has just won the German Open. He's actually quite a nice bloke really.

Is there another open golf competition held for male players in Germany, Monty?Montreal Wanderer wrote:I don't think there has been a German Open for men for over a decade, Bruce, though there is one for ladies. Come on Brucie... you know he's a pedant. No idea, but the Munich Open is I believe technically the BMW International Open and always held in Munich even when there was a German Open, which like other Opens moved around the country. Almost all German professional golf tournaments have fallen by the wayside. Even the Deutsche Bank championship, which was an Open event, folded four or five years ago.Bruce Rioja wrote:Is there another open golf competition held for male players in Germany, Monty?Montreal Wanderer wrote:I don't think there has been a German Open for men for over a decade, Bruce, though there is one for ladies. So, if it's the only single men's open golf tournament held in Germany, then I'm perfectly within my rights to refer to it as being the German Open. Glad we cleared that up.Montreal Wanderer wrote:No idea, but the Munich Open is I believe technically the BMW International Open and always held in Munich even when there was a German Open, which like other Opens moved around the country. Of course you may and, I agree, it is certainly a German Open.Bruce Rioja wrote:So, if it's the only single men's open golf tournament held in Germany, then I'm perfectly within my rights to refer to it as being the German Open. Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
In six weeks time I'm taking my kids to see some friends in Belarus that we haven't seen for some years. First thing this morning my visa applications came back with a photocopied note saying I'd used the wrong application form. Strange that seeing as its the one on the embassy website.
I was a tad miffed at that and the additional 13 quid I then had to spend on postage, sending out new applications on a form that was different by 3 words.
Tonight however, I had a messgae from one of the friends we are visiting. She lost her dad 6 months ago from cancer. Last week her 20 year old younger sister was killed in an RTA along with her boyfriend. Sort of puts my petty fecking snivelling over a bit of paper and money I can easily afford into perspective.
I'm gutted for her and her family. I can't imagine what they're going through.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

He's just being a dick really. If there is no other Men's Open then it's acceptable to call it the German Open.bobo the clown wrote:You are a pernickety fckr Monty.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Of course you may and, I agree, it is certainly a German Open.

Perhaps, but there are those on here - I mention no names - who get apoplectic when Americans refer to The Open as the British Open. Sauce for the goose, etc.bobo the clown wrote:You are a pernickety fckr Monty.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Of course you may and, I agree, it is certainly a German Open.

I have never come across any such apoplexy on here... can you point me in the right direction?Montreal Wanderer wrote:Perhaps, but there are those on here - I mention no names - who get apoplectic when Americans refer to The Open as the British Open. If you say so, though you might ask old Henrik Pedersen is he remembers any scorn poured on him for American ignorance. On second thoughts why bother?thebish wrote:only because there aren't any!Montreal Wanderer wrote:\No, I said i would mention no names.thebish wrote:I have never come across any such apoplexy on here... can you point me in the right direction?Montreal Wanderer wrote:Perhaps, but there are those on here - I mention no names - who get apoplectic when Americans refer to The Open as the British Open.
