How exactly is he meant to 'put it to bed'?
well - i'd imagine for one thing he could find a way to let it be known that he has signed for Bolton, intends to be playing for Bolton next season and doesn't want to be anywhere else but Bolton next season.. maybe he could put on a bolton top and sing "we are the one and only wanderers" while he's at it. he could say that he admires Dougie Freedman and the way he has set up the club and opine that he is looking forward to fighting for a regular starting place and that he is itching to join the wanderers for pre-season training.

i reckon that'd pretty much put it to bed...

Come out and say he's signed for us, is sticking with us and is looking forward to pre-season. End of speculation.

He's taken a couple of teams up now. He's not doing too bad in my estimation. But yeah, Baptiste should throw his hat in the ring and say I'm Bolton, or 'I'm off'..............

.... any statement from "why the fck would I want to work with that crazy nice person again ???" through to "I admire everything about Crystal Palace and their fans but I am signed to Bolton, another excellent club, and I will commit my all to them in the coming seasons" would do.

Or maybe he's on holiday.

Meanwhile I'm dropping off a box of pens at the 'bok later this week.

By saying he's signed for us and has no interest in going anywhere else?
He hasn't signed for anyone though, because he can't do until the 1st July. He may have as reported have signed a contract, but he is not a registered Bolton player.

It is not his place to announce anything. It is up to the club, who have remained silent.

They announced the Tierney deal as a 'will become a Bolton player on 1st July'. They didn't do the same for Baptiste.

It's certainly not up to the player to announce it.

well....
Dougie Freedman wrote:"Once everything is sorted, I am signing him (Baptiste) as a right-back, 100%.

"He can play in other positions, but I feel that is the position where he would be of best value to the team.

"Alex will come here because he wants to be here, nothing else. He had very good offers from clubs elsewhere."
hardly a secret...

is Baptiste legally prevented from saying where he wants to play next season? what would happen to him if he did?

But he may well have told those who matter what he wants to do. I doubt he sees it as critical enough to do a press release to put fans minds at ease.

It's not about being legally prevented from doing anything but more about something he probably sees as irrelevant. Though I guess technically he's still employed by Blackpool.

To be fair he might be on holiday and have no intention of fecking us off. However speculation suggests he is thinking about it. He'd get a lot of goodwill from stating it clearly now.

Fair enough his record is decent overall, but the stories from Blackpool about him barely ever turning up rang some alarm bells for me. Also I genuinely don't think he can take a lot of credit for Palace. I think he's a bit of a chancer, though he's obviously had something in the past when it comes to motivating players. Another Coyle I think, which doesn't make him a terrible manager but wouldn't want him anywhere near us if Dougie leaves at some point. He's one of those guys who will polarise opinion.

so... back to leverEnd's original statement - Baptiste could quickly put all this to bed.

you essentially agree? there is nothing stopping him saying he wants to play for Bolton next season and nobody else?

feck me. If he's not signed for us, he's free to go and ply his trade at the top of the tree.

If he hasn't signed, but does. Then if question his ambition, because it'd be clear that it's a financial decision (nowt wrong with that).

He doesn't have to justify himself to anyone. I suggest people get over it, regardless of the outcome.

indeed - i don't think anyone is asking him to justify himself - merely the simple observation that with all the speculation and conflicting reports - he is well placed - if he wanted to - to pretty much put the speculation to bed. that's all!

If not fair enough. But it looks like he has from this. So he should honour what he's signed. If he doesn't it's not the end of the world, but it must be an unwelcome distraction to Dougie and has repercussions for the Ricketts deal, so not to be dismissed lightly I think.

WANDERERS remain confident Alex Baptiste will be rolled out as a Bolton player at the end of the month.

The defender is legally bound to the Whites and is due to sign officially on July 1, but three weeks after the story of Crystal Palace’s interest first broke, a fresh wave of speculation over his future was triggered ...

So if he has signed, we get money. What's the issue? Are we genuinely of the opinion that a player is a bit of a c*nt if he'd rather play in the Premier League, than play for us?? Because even as Bolton fan, I know what I'd rather do!

In other news, Cardiff are supposedly interested in Pratley. I'd let him go for literally fvck all, if it meant getting his million a year off the bill for somebody who can at least play the game.

no - i don't think anyone is saying this. it was merely a simple suggestion that given the speculation about his own future - Baptiste is in a very good position to end the speculation... that's all...

This...

Ian Evatt has criticised the end of Ian Holloway’s regime at Blackpool revealing that the players were told to stay off for up to SIX days at a time.
Holloway left on November 3 after a colourful three years in charge to become Crystal Palace manager and 31-year-old Evatt said his departure was necessary.
The defender said: ‘I think we both needed a change. In the last couple of months, we hadn’t really done much training. We had numerous days off - anything from two to five or six at a time.

The issue is we'll struggle to get someone else of his calibre in, Dougie has been working on the basis that he is coming and if he doesn't we might have to keep a player (Ricketts) who knows that Dougie was happy to let him go. All of which is far from ideal. If he reneges on a verbal agreement and a signed pre-contract and disrupts the plans for the new season then I consider that an issue.
It doesn't make him the Antichrist and I won't be protesting on the town hall steps, but in my opinion it would make him just a bit of a cnut.
Like thebish says, he should make his mind up, then we can either forget it or start negotiating on a fee and looking elsewhere.
