What are you watching tonight?

If you have a life outside of BWFC, then this is the place to tell us all about your toilet habits, and those bizarre fetishes.......

They've clearly splashed a lot of cash and technology into it and, as a simple crash, bang, wallop and special effects film it was OK. As a Superman genre film it took huge liberties with the storyline ... maybe not relevant unless you're an old fogie like me brought up on the whole range of Marvel comics.

It over-relied on SFX and it's clear the team had discovered the technique for having people skid at speed and dig a groove in the ground. to roll-through buildings and shatter glass, and to have sky-scrappers fall. Once or twice is OK, as often as they did it was dull and repetitive.

Finally, the amount of overt "All-Americanisms" was retch-making. I'd like to think it was tongue in cheek, but actually don't think so.
Went to see it yesterday too.

Someone said to me afterwards with all the destruction in the city Clark Kent just showed up at the office the next day like nothing had ever happened. Also, with so many buildings tumbling over there's no way they were all empty.

All-American-isms... I think Superman is a brit and the producer/writer is a brit too, maybe they over-compensated so it'll go down well over the pond.

Oh, and much of the non-SFX shots are filmed with a hand-held camera and so you get that disconcerting camera wobble which, after a while, makes you feel dizzy.

I saw it the other week. I liked the Krypton stuff at the beginning, and I liked his childhood flashbacks (and I worship Amy Adams) but by the time he was smashing Zods head through skyscrapers I'd completely lost interest and was thoroughly bored by the end of it. Meh of Steel, Man of Snore, Zzzzzuperman etc

Capt Corelli's mandolin again. still shocked at how bad Nicholas Cage's Italian accent is. Who cares though when Penelope Cruz is playing the wonderful Pelagia -swoon :stalker:

That was an excellent novel, but tried reading one of his others and it was awful.

Watched "Sideways" for the first time last night, cant decide if it was really good or just meh!!! On reflection I think a bit of both, although Virginia Madsen is very lovely in it.

Watched that too. Was great.

Unfortunately I also watched Bastille, who had something akin to the Spinal Tap "henge" at the front of the stage, and Professor Green (what's all that about then?) I turned off when Dizzee Rascal appeared. I mean what the fook has happened to Glasto?

I downloaded the Glastonbury app. It shows, amongst other things, the zones and within each of, I think, 8 zones anything up to a dozen stages at each. Then, shows a timeline for each with who is on, when.

I was utterly astonished at the scale of the thing. So many options, though I guess geography limits what you can get to. But honestly, I was staggered.

Just watched Mike Leigh's Naked. Incredibly stark and brutal in places. The main character, Johnny, is played absolutely brilliantly by David Thewlis. By the way, I'd no idea that Katrin Cartlidge is no longer with us. :(

Anyway, one of the benefits of taping Glasto is that I can FF through stuff like this Laura Mvula, who I've never heard of and hope never to hear from again.

Edit: Think I'll check out more of this Noah & The Whale bunch. Far less so Ed Harcourt, Ben Howard, The Bombay Royale or a bunch of Tibetan Monks. :conf:

Edit II: This Haim bunch would be far more interesting if they did an L7 and got their fannies out!

over here we'd call that "the sea-going Irish Open - a competition specifically organised for people who play golf".

You've obviously reached the age level where Superman has lost his magic. You will now start hunting down back episodes of Last of the Summer Wine and begin to re-appreciate Ray Conniff, Mantovani and Victor Sylvester all over again. Maturity has arrived. Now's the time to go through your record collection and get rid of all those Max Bygraves, Des O'Connor and Val Doonican items while there's still time.
