Re: STU-SA
He must have SOME sort of contract otherwise he'd be crackers playing, even seriously training, given his injury history. The potential of a new break or twist ending his career while not under contract doesn't bear thinking of for a player.
What I don't get is the Nixon-like vagueness of it all. He, Freedman and the club are quite capable of putting this to bed, but they don't.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: STU-SA
They have said a few times that Holden is playing for the USA this summer as part of his recovery. They also did an article in the Bolton News saying that a deal for Holden was all agreed before he went and he sent some documentation back from the States to confirm it all.bobo the clown wrote:He must have SOME sort of contract otherwise he'd be crackers playing, even seriously training, given his injury history. I doubt the club really thinks anyone is bothered.

That's just about the biggest amount of tosh that I have ever heard.CrazyHorse wrote:If BWFC are in the habit of paying someone tens of thousands of pounds a week when they're not contractually obliged to we've got bigger problems than any of us could've imagined. So no.
A quick example, you go and work on a 3 month contract as an employee of a company - once that 3 month contract expires, the company say we'd like to extend it into a permanent contract. You keep working, the company keep paying you. tax, ni etc, continues to be paid. A month later a contract turns up and is signed - you're honestly claiming that this could be classed as money laundering and breaching FFP...???!!!
So?

Or he could go there and prove he is back to his best. Then he would have more power when negotiating his contract with Bolton or perhaps have a queue of other clubs scrambling for his signature. A gamble but one he may thinks is worth taking.bobo the clown wrote:He must have SOME sort of contract otherwise he'd be crackers playing, even seriously training, given his injury history. Re: STU-SA
Personally, I think people are under the impression that after playing a bit he'll be the Holden we had before Jonny Evans (I'm going to abbreviate to B.E.).
I don't think he's ever coming back that player.
In many ways it will be a small miracle after the injury then the comeback then the subsequent injury that Holden can get back to a professional level.
But given what's happened he's probably going to have to be managed carefully in terms of playing time and probably play a different sort of role to the all action, here there everywhere player he was before.

Yeah you're right it's tosh. Paying a footballer with a foreign bank account who isn't even on your books to not play football for you when they're not even in the country doesn't sound the slightest bit dodgy. Fair play.Loyal White wrote:That's just about the biggest amount of tosh that I have ever heard.CrazyHorse wrote:If BWFC are in the habit of paying someone tens of thousands of pounds a week when they're not contractually obliged to we've got bigger problems than any of us could've imagined. At least Jurgen and insane are on the same page. Ten minutes in five games is can certainly be seen as managing him carefully in terms of playing time.
That'll get him right back to his new potential.

1. Intriguing knowledge on Stu's bank details there and were we pay him. Assumption or fact?CrazyHorse wrote:Yeah you're right it's tosh. 2. Isn't even on books? That was my original point - if we're paying him, he is on our books.
3. Why are we paying him not to play football for us? Dougie has quite clearly stated he wants him out in the USA. I suppose Chelsea and Oscar have been committing money laundering whilst he has been playing in the Confed Cup?

Like I've already said. You're obviously right bwfc are clearly in the habit of paying players who aren't under contract to them. Whether that's dodgy or not is pure opinion. You don't think it is, I do.

'On a night when Landon Donovan grabbed headlines by scoring two goals, the performance of the night was turned in by a player who didn’t begin the U.S. Men’s National Team’s match vs. Guatemala in the starting lineup.
Stuart Holden took the field at halftime on Friday night and proceeded to turn in one of the better midfield performances in recent memory on the U.S. team. The Bolton midfielder delivered pin-point crosses, dangerous long passes and kept the ball moving as the U.S. attack rattled off five goals in the second 45 minutes of the match in a 6-0 victory.
Holden certainly answered questions about his ability to be an impact player, and just might have done enough to play his way into the U.S. starting lineup heading into the Gold Cup.
Holden beat out Donovan, Mix Diskerud and DaMarcus Beasley for SBI USMNT Man of the Match honors.'
Worth noting this is effectively the USA B team and Guatemala sit 93rd in the FIFA World Rankings.

Re: STU-SA
A semi final tomorrow night (Wednesday), wonder if he sat out the last game to be fresh for this one.
I doubt it mind, can't help thinking he'd have been better off doing a proper pre season somewhere.

Re: STU-SA
According to American BWFC blog "Lion of Vienna" he signed a 1 year extension in May, which has been confirmed by Mr Holden himself. Somewhere, somehow.

"U.S. midfielder Stuart Holden enjoyed an active first half. He launched a long-distance effort that sailed wide right in the seventh minute and fired an 18-yard shot over the crossbar in the 18th minute."

Another full 90 minutes for Stu. Awful pitch which would have really tested that knee. Good stuff all round!
