Not to mention, if Holden doesn't come back the same player or gets injured (highly likely with his record) where left with Pratley "shudder" partnering Medo
No thank you

Let's not forget we have Andrews as well (I know) ... maybe Wiggin will make a bid.ChrisC wrote:I agree. Some wont agree but that's just my opinion.
Vela has to be able to step up, young as he is, if we decide we have better things to do than spend on Spearing.
It's an odd one though when your player of the season becomes available for less than £2m and we say "nah!"
I'd like us to sign him but if we can't/don't then I hope this/these winger/striker one/two is a good 'un.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Similar in the combative stakes but I think Medo is better on the ball and more creative, while Spearing is better positionally at that shielding role. Very impressed with Medo but we lost something defensively when Spearing was out at the end. With no dawson I think Spearing is even more important. If not, then I'd like to think a talented lad like Medo can learn the role and be even better than Spearing.BWFC_Insane wrote:Same I think. I mean the thing is that Spearing and Medo are sort of similar in many ways. Pratley covers a lot of ground so I'd not be that willing to shunt him out.ChrisC wrote:IMO Pratley is a very important player in this league. Nobody in the team covers ground like he does. He's a basic footballer but he knows what you need to do to get promoted and I think his athleticism is underrated.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I think Spearing was brought in with the hope of him doing well and the team getting promoted. That didn't happen so we have to cut our cloth a little more sensibly.bobo the clown wrote:Let's not forget we have Andrews as well (I know) ... maybe Wiggin will make a bid.ChrisC wrote:I agree. Having said that, I think we will go in for him. Eddie isn't stupid, he wants promotion and if he think Spearing will help get us up then he will give Dougie the cash (if he asks for it). I don't see the problem myself. Spearing is only 24 so would easily get our money back on him or close to it if we ever needed to. I suspect the wages could be the issue here.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
When the money is tight you have to be careful what we spend it on, Blackburn have agreed a fee, what we don't know is if there is a sell on clause or further payments based on certain criteria and there is also wage demands. DF seems to have limited funds available if he feels there is enough cover for this position then buying Spearing may not be the good business it looks on the surface.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
There are supposedly two possible attacking loans a not named premiership winger and a not named foreign winger/striker. We were looking to do both, but now apparently just one with the foreign one seeming more likely.....if you believe this stuff.bobo the clown wrote:Really ???Norpig wrote:http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/fo ... my-4888689?

I thought exactly the same every time I have seen either of the Amiobis I have been unimpressed. As always I will wait and see how each player plays under DF. He must be a backup though and not a regular starter?bobo the clown wrote:Really ???Norpig wrote:http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/fo ... my-4888689?

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Actually I can't believe it. We have a half-dozen back up strikers and if we're going to develop someone let's see what Clough can do. We need a scorer, not a back-up. Loan players often come with an expectation, or even a guarantee, of playing time ... that can have been the ONLY justification for Afoebi's constant selection last season.
I must assume that the next one in is part of the Sordell exit plan ... or N'Gog ... or both.

Well Ameobi can play out wide. But look at Dougie's team at Palace, one thing it had was pace in wide and forward areas.bobo the clown wrote:Actually I can't believe it. One thing we lack is any real pace going forwards and out wide. It's a big weakness. So I can see why he wants to address that.
I still think he should be soting a centre half out first though.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I thought Eaves looked like he had a bit of pace and Sordell has if he can be arsed! But I agree CB is a priority but until Mills is off the payroll maybe nothing will happen. Dawson still a possibility when he realises he will not get in the WBA side, they seem to be recruiting more CB!!BWFC_Insane wrote:Well Ameobi can play out wide. Neither Sordell or Eaves are quick compared to Zaha and Bolasie.Norpig wrote:I thought Eaves looked like he had a bit of pace and Sordell has if he can be arsed! I think thats what he's after. Bit of pace on the counter and different options.
Anyhow Nixon just said that Ameobi is the premiership winger target but at the moment Bolton want to sign the foreign lad on loan instead. But the situation is quite changeable so we could go back to Ameobi if the foreign deal is difficult.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
So who plays in between Baptiste and Tierney? Presumably Zat Knight, which to many observers is a concern in itself, but alongside whom: David Wheater? Matt Mills? Tim Ream? Cian Bolger?DF said rather than wrote:I’ve still got a way to go in terms of having an all-round squad. I want a squad that is pushing each other and I felt in certain games last season that I looked at the bench and it wasn’t strong enough. I am comfortable with my starting 11 but I am still uncomfortable with the squad as a whole. I have said many times that I felt it was a bit imbalanced at times and that’s maybe where the ins and outs will come in. I think it’s good for the club to freshen things up. A good bench is key in the Championship – with Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday games coming up as often as they do. I felt last season that we slipped up on one or two midweek games. That was the key.
As for Sat-midweek-Sat, he's right (despite the early start). Here they are, with the date of the first match and home games in caps - and ignoring cup games:
Sep 14: LEEDS-DERBY-Brighton
Sep 28: YEOVIL-Blackpool-Birmingham
Nov 30: Boro-HUDDERSFIELD-DONCASTER
Dec 21: CHARLTON-Barnsley (Boxing Day)-Leicester (29th)-BORO (NYD)
Jan 25: BURNLEY-qpr-Ipswich
Mar 8: Leeds-Derby-BRIGHTON
Mar 22: Yeovil-BLACKPOOL-Wigan
Apr 5: Huddersfield-Doncaster-BARNSLEY
Apr 19: Charlton-LEICESTER (Easter Mon)-Sheffield Wednesday
So that's nine trios of games, 27 matches out of the 46, which might be lost by tiring legs or won by having a strong bench. He's right about that... even if I still worry about centre-back.

Thought Ameobi was probably Middlesbrough's best player at the Reebok, before he got injured. Sigh of relief there as Alonso was struggling to match him (fancy that).. Decent signing. Could provide something off the bench, but then again, if Eagles is playing centrally, he could play down one of the flanks

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
In terms of centre halves. I'm sure Dougie and the coaching staff can make perfectly adequate Championship centre backs out of Mills and Wheater.. Don't forget, when Mills was fit, Coyle was the gaffer. He'd struggle to make Franco Baresi look competent.
Decent pre-season, some ego-massaging and we, in my opinion, still have a decent set of defenders
