No wonder he gave up trying for the last two seasons. Whats the point when you think you've got a guaranteed new deal irrespective of performance?
Well said. Couldn't agree more.

The only thing I'd change in your sentence is 'four seasons' rather than two. Someone else has noted he thought he was billy big bollocks, I've been saying this for years. I used to get masses of abuse for it, actual personal abuse because of my views. Bolton fans have finally, finally realised that he's been stealing a living at this club since Sam Allardyce left.

He talks as if he's hard done by. He's seen out his contract and hasn't been offered a new one. Big fecking wow, so have a load of other players at Bolton and other clubs across the country! He talks as if we've made him homeless and jobless when he's got a club from his home town fighting for his signature, never mind all the others after him.

My final word on Kevin Davies, thanks for the first six years of service to Bolton, you were absolutely brilliant and worked your socks off to become a favourite. Ever since then, you thought you were untouchable and the workrate plummeted. I'm glad we're finally getting to move on and see a new look strike force for the new season.
That's priceless!

I don't disagree entirely, in that he was at his best, by far, under Big Sam. Not sure his double figures season under Meggo can be classed 'stealing a living' though, for example. He was pretty damn awesome in the run in when we just stayed up too (remember West Aaaaam!).

Slow, quickening decline, however.

I think there has been a bit of over the top criticism of some of his past comments. I think he's entitled to be disappointed, and entitled to think he was good enough. I don't think he was, and I think almost every fan agreed it was (at least) time, but it's obviously difficult to be objective about yourself.

That said, that article is not a pretty one. I never thought I'd say this, but our Kev sounds a bit...mard.

Aye, a fan to the end and don't care who knows it. K.D was total Bolton, loved the club and the town, did loads for local charity and is disappointed it's come to an end that means totally leaving it all. What a sin? Leaves still loving the place followed by a shower of shxt abuse by Bolton fans? Great stuff lads. What did you really expect him to do, give us the finger and sign for Wolves? In this money-dictated sport, if we ever in our history get another player as dedicated to his team as K.D was to Bolton Wanderers I'll be amazed.

I still reckon opposition defences, looking at our current striker line up list, will heave a sigh of relief it doesn't contain the name, Kevin Davies. Suit yourselves. If I need to be the only one to stand up and say "Good on you mate", then Amen.

And if we are ever as loyal to another player as we were with Davies, I'll be amazed.

It's a two way street. Both parties showed the other loyalty.

Yet only one has took the media to criticise and spread lies about the other.

99.9% of Bolton fans will likely be happy to acknowledge what a great career SKD had at Bolton. He was idolised at the club, he earnt more money than 99.9% of fans could even dream of in the process. Both parties got a fantastic deal and there can be no complaints on either side...

Only someone is moaning. I personally find it disrespectful. We know and he knew before his birthday that that his time with us was drawing to an end. Yet he's in the press, seemingly at every opportunity making out it was a shock, it was devastating on his birthday etc etc. The fact is, he's had time to get over the pain I'm sure he's felt of such a major part of his life ending. It is no ones fault, it is normal. He's aged, he can no longer contribute in the way we need him to. It is time to step aside graciously, take the plaudits and wish the kids stepping up the kind of success he had with us.

Not very long ago we had another player that had Bolton in his blood leave. He was a quiet fellow but I don't doubt he was just as committed to the town and club. His time had come, possibly less so than Davies, but he took it positively and moved on in his life. The circumstances were different with the 2 of them, but there are a lot of similar circumstances. As much as SKD is a bit of a legend, he has tarnished it with his constant bitching. I'm afraid I'm going to remember the other fellow with much more fondness because of SKD's petulance in recent months.

Yeah but lets just be grateful he was able to put a "brave face" on for the visit to the children's ward.

You only made Andy Murray a hero after he won the last point, what chance KD?

That would be a very tiny minority. Criticising his actions doesn't constitute abuse. And those same critics largely wish him luck, as do I

Not true. I've followed Murray's career from the start.

Davies has let himself down by continually moaning about not getting a contract here. All he needed to say was "it's very disappointing but that's football and lets face it, people up and down the country are being made redundant in terrible situations, I'm one of the lucky ones, but still sad to leave Bolton Wanderers".

Instead he's lied about things, whinged on, claimed repeatedly that he was still "good enough" despite all evidence to the contrary, and failed to accept that for the last two years we were doing him a favour in employing him.

Its reported he banked £10M over his time here. He didn't work for nothing.

A true "hero" or "legend" or whatever you call it, doesn't throw a hissy fit every five minutes and try to drag the club they supposedly love through a messy public discussion every few weeks.

Davies has moved in my estimation from one of my favourite players to watch a few years back to a hero after his exploits at Birmingham then back down to an overpaid but useless symptom of the clubs malaise. On his release he should have returned back to hero status by being respectful and acknowledging his disappointment but at the same time respecting the club who gave him a chance when nobody else would and rewarded him admirably. But he hasn't done that. His wife's influence may be the issue, but he's a 36 year old man. So the way he's acted is more like a young pro starting out in the game. Not impressed. And for me he's in real danger of going from someone I'd have applauded were we ever to play against to someone I'd simply ignore.

Well, you know, Kevin has just been far too bloody petulant for my liking over this whole business. Do you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to not flipping clap him, that's what. Take that Mister.

Not exactly the point I was making. What I was saying was that its sad that someone who should be a hero has let himself down so that many of the fans who once adored him now are less than ambivalent.

The most influential BWFC player of the living memory of a good few on here (myself included) has a minor strop to a newspaper, and you're suddenly approaching ambivalence; a certain former manager has a few pops at the fans WHILST the manager, and plenty digs at the club afterwards, and he gets defended to the hilt.

People give far too much of a shit what people say and whether they've been mean or 'ungrateful'. Kev sounds like a bit of a knob in that article. Big deal. He's gonna have to fecking go some to wipe out being a true BWFC hero to me. Mard comments to the Mirror won't cut it.

It's hardly the same situation. Davies is acting like Bolton owed him something. I personally think he couldn't be bothered in his last two seasons here. If he was at least honest and stopped the lies that would at least help!

I'm quite prepared to accept he has behaved pretty poorly over all this but that he hasn't tried for the last 2/4 years? Get to feck

Said it whilst he was still playing for us in the Premier League. He stopped putting his body on the line the way he used to. Yes, he was older. But the fact he could play as often as he did, showed to me that the physical output wasn't there.

You play at 100%. If that means you sit out the midweek game, then so be it. I seem to remember a few people belittling that too. One smug feck* used the words "Ageing player in not as fit as he used to be shocker" or something whilst completely ignoring my point.

The arms out wide pose after giving away a free kick or the ball was an all too familiar sight for my liking.
