Re: SKD off to Canada...
The club didn't treat Davies badly in any way. He was told at that point as he was trying to negotiate a loan move away behind the clubs back. And the club felt it fair to himStaffsTrotter wrote:Before I'm put into the SKD love in pigeon hole, I'll say now that I'm a shades of grey view rather than black and white. I'd agree he was here probably 2 years too long to perform the 1 man up front, pump it up to him role effectively, and many a time I despaired of the tactic his prescence on the pitch induced in his team mates.BWFC_Insane wrote:He wasn't rubbish for years. His last two seasons were two too many.
His legs looked shot, he looked less than interested and seemingly happily took his salary whilst not really contributing much.
Now Dougie seemed to be weaning him out slowly before the contract showdown. It had been general knowledge for a long time that he wasn't getting a new deal. His wife tweeted as much in January. So they fecking knew, the fans knew and so did the other players.
End of the day he's gone down a division. Hardly suggests he was a player who offered a whole lot to a team that is meant to be chasing promotion in the division above.
Not convinced about the not being bothered bit. Not convinced about he definitely knew no contract bit, but you'd have thought he would have suspected it wasn't going to happen, rather than it being a total surprise. As he said in the article it was the timing and club statement that was the issue. As I said earlier the club have form in their poor treatment of players at release - campo, JJ etc
to announce it before the loan deadline expired.
The whole 'they told me on my birthday' is bollocks. His wife tweeted it in fecking January that he wasn't getting a new deal.
End of the day at 36 even if you are told on your birthday it's hardly terrible.
He was treated fairly by the club, was given two years he shouldn't have been and should be thankful for that.

We should be up in arms about the tw*ts who let that mediocrity continue at the club.
Not some millionaire soft as shite has been who couldn't find the net if it was tattooed on his wife's big fat arse.
Not sure which bits to put in bold, since all of them deserve it.

Re: SKD off to Canada...
Think I'm just going to draw my own line under this alleged "saga" now. I've seen less drama on Eastenders (although better acted).
I'm happy for Davo that he's got something sorted out, so hopefully he can move on. I would worry about his ability to make a telling contribution a division down. If you're Kevin Phillips and yer legs have gone, you still have the ability potentially to score goals in cameos. If scoring wasn't your forte in the first place and yer legs have gone, there isn't much left.
It was beyond the right time for a change, but if a succession of managers think that their striking alternatives aren't any better, then they're going to pick him.
I suspect I'll remember Davo's contributions to BWFC longer than our current crop of strikers. I'll certainly remember them long after I've forgotton (about now) all of the mindnumbingly mantraic posts about how shit he was.

I agree with Worthy about his prospects. I've a mate who is a Preston fan who is over the moon about this. I tried to point out that if they were getting the Kev he thinks they are, they, well, wouldn't be getting him.
If you're game is based on bullying defenders: energy, strength and mobility, then once the physical side goes, you're pretty f*cked.
That said, despite being a fecking shadow of himself at the start of last season, relying on the 'experience' gained over many years to draw in inexperienced defenders and then fall over, he was still well worthy of a starting spot. Our remaining strikers may congratulate themselves that by the end of the season they'd rightly relegated him from the first team (and squad), but before they get too happy, they might reflect that the KD they got in front of is not the KD I'll be remembering. Not one of them is anywhere near Kev in his prime.

Re: SKD off to Canada...
I think everyone, SKD, the club and a number of fans have handled this very badly.
I agree that Davo was, to be fair, here two seasons to long and I thought he was picked to the detriment of the team on quite a number of occasions but to slag him off like some are just leaves a nasty taste and smell.
Good luck Kev thanks for playing such an important role during good times I doubt we will ever see again in many of our life times.

Internet's binary
FWIW I agree with Worthy that memories of his (earlier) performances should outlast those of his decline and all this bullshit, which has been incredibly badly handled by his allegedly PR-expert missus
I also think physicality has its place and he's not as finished as some might think - as long as Grayson doesn't expect 90 minutes of sprints he'll contribute to that team, but we'll see (on Granada Soccer Night with Elton Welsby)
Re: SKD off to Canada...
Does anyone not think that going down the leagues might actually diminish his effectiveness as the physicality increases? He was somewhat of a novelty in the premier league with soft foreign centre backs and Matthew Upson to deal with, will that be the same case in the 3rd tier?

I'm not sure there's a direct correlation in terms of the lower down the pyramid you go, the tougher the players get.
In fact, I'd probably say it's opposite. Championship players certainly seem weaker, less fit and physically smaller, than their Premier League counterparts. Defenders especially.

Championship and League one defenders are probably more "used" to facing a target man like Davies though than premiership defences....boltonboris wrote:I'm not sure there's a direct correlation in terms of the lower down the pyramid you go, the tougher the players get.

That doesn't mean that they'd deal with it better.
I've said it before, compared to Premier League defenders, Championship ones are pussies. You see them get brushed off the ball so easily in highlight reels every weekend. Even Eagles has put a couple of defenders on their arses with his shoulder.
It's definitely one area, where there's a big difference in physicality.

And besides, I think it's probably bollocks. I've been wracking my brain trying to think of a big target man, who backs in, wins headers and is all elbows and arms in the Champo and League 1.BWFC_Insane wrote:Championship and League one defenders are probably more "used" to facing a target man like Davies though than premiership defences....boltonboris wrote:I'm not sure there's a direct correlation in terms of the lower down the pyramid you go, the tougher the players get.

I can think of a couple in the prem, but only Davies outside of it.

Zigic. Vokes. Deeney. Howard. Murphy. A few off the top of my head in the championship.boltonboris wrote:And besides, I think it's probably bollocks. Deeney? He's about the same size as me. Vokes? Really? Zigic is big. But soft as shite and hardly plays. I don't know who Howard and Murphy are.
Do you honestly, honestly think, Champo defenders are tougher and more physically strong than Premiership ones?
We're talking about the likes of Ivanovic, Vidic, Ferdinand, Terry, Kompany, Williams etc.

I think you're right about the physicality. Though I think it often gets mixed up with athleticism and pace.boltonboris wrote:Deeney? He's about the same size as me. Vokes? Really? Zigic is big. But soft as shite and hardly plays. I don't know who Howard and Murphy are.

I don't think Ferdinand for example is physical at all.
Deeney is the same height as Davies. Similar build too.
Definitely put him in the target man category. Always backing in. Very physical.

Re: SKD off to Canada...
Ferdinand is as strong as an ox mate. The guy's enormous. The top flight centre backs in particular have a bit more of a mean streak. They're physically stronger and more aggressive, not just faster. That's why they're at the top. You could argue that freaks of nature like Shittu are big and strong, but he's a bit soft to go with it. Can't move quick enough for it to be useful
Ok. Could Deeney cause as many problems to Premier League defenders, as he can with Championship defenders? If you think he could, then we may aswell just fvck the conversation off.

That was me trying to fit in with the 'slag Davo off, get disagreed with, call the person disagreeing a wanker then start whinging about how there are cliques and you just have an opinion' lot.Wandering Willy wrote:And there it is - watch out if you don't agree with the KD fan club.Prufrock wrote: You're a c*nt

Lots of people have lots of different opinions. If more than one person has a different opinion to you, they aren't necessarily clubbing together against you, it's probably just not a clear-cut issue.
