I seem to remember him playing for Sunderland a while back in a few games when they had a lot of forwards injured. Don't know if he is any good or not though.Norpig wrote:Looks like we are after another Leicester Striker?

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
It's not like I'm watching these players week in, week out but I do like to watch lots of football. If Valencia, the Spanish team I loosely support, are playing and I have free time, I'll watch them and I like to watch Real, Atletico and Barcelona too if I can. Games aren't too hard to find either. I just checked and right now, I could watch Irtysh Pavlodar against Levski Sofia if I wanted to, so even obscure games are easy to find. Most La Liga games have plenty of coverage online.boltonboris wrote:Never heard of any of them personally, I'm interested to hear how and how often you've seen them play and what makes you think they'd be a better regualr goalscoring option than somebody who's averaged about 30 goals a season in this country for the last few years.SmokinFrazier wrote: The only issue is whether the players would drop down to our level but if you look at deals which have already happened, it's an indication of the quality you can get for less money. Leo Baptistaojoined Atletico for around £5m, Iago Aspas joined Liverpool for £7m and then players like Kondogbia, who has been rumoured to leave Sevilla for around £8m. These are quality prospects and even though I don't think players like that would consider us for a second, it's an indication of how much of a bargain you can get. Baptistao for £5m or Jordan Rhodes for £12m? It's just not close, at all. If the prices were the other way around their valuations would still be well off, never mind as they currently are.
I don't know who would consider coming us. That's a personal thing but as far as transfer fees and wages go, a player like Alvaro Vazquez would cost less than Jordan Rhodes.

Alvaro is one of the best strikers in the world, scores goals for fun and has done for a few years.boltonboris wrote:Never heard of any of them personally, I'm interested to hear how and how often you've seen them play and what makes you think they'd be a better regualr goalscoring option than somebody who's averaged about 30 goals a season in this country for the last few years.SmokinFrazier wrote: The only issue is whether the players would drop down to our level but if you look at deals which have already happened, it's an indication of the quality you can get for less money. I remember him from the goalless draw at the Reebok. He was a strong lad and looked pretty good, as did leicester all-round. We were lucky to get away with a draw and but for a blinder from Bogdan he'd have scored.bwfcdan94 wrote:Another average striker we are linked withPC1978 wrote:I seem to remember him playing for Sunderland a while back in a few games when they had a lot of forwards injured. Having said that his overall record doesn't look great, and I can't see how he's improve on what we've got. We've got everything up front for this division except a prolific scorer. Only way I see any point in taking him on is if someone is on his way out.

Like I said, I'm not suggesting any of these players would join us but I am saying that there's more value in going abroad. There are plenty of players better or equal to Jordan Rhodes out there, yet if we look beyond Britain, those sort of players cost a lot less. We've only signed 6 players from abroad since 2010/11, so I'd like to see our club look beyond these shores more regularly.
I actually don't like the idea of bringing through lots of non-British players, and I'd love to see more homegrown players get given a chance, but the fact is, a 'good' foreign player costs a lot less than a 'good' British player and for a club without an unlimited budget, it makes more sense to look abroad.
But I thought you knew football?

I don't disagree that it would be daft not to look abroad, but you don't know that we aren't. If you don't have any names in mind who even might be interested then I don't think you can really make make any criticism when we sign an English (or Scottish) player because there were 'probably some better Spanish blokes knocking about'.
Also, who the feck is spending their free time willing watching mid-table Spanish games?!
