Beckford? I guess that would be a surprise given how long it's taking.

Perhaps it's that Moritz?

I'm hoping that the relative inactivity means he's a got a big signing on the way at some point and is keeping his powder dry. If not then let's not forget for all the talk of weaknesses, that we finished the season stronger than anyone else pver 12 games with a number of injuries. And we're no weaker and now will have a proper pre-season. So even as we are we're not looking too bad.

Which will bring into sharp focus the fact (yep ... fact) that despite that truly very good run, we often didn't look convincing.

... and that run began and ended while Dawson was here and ended the one game he left.

OK, I'm just a pessimist. :hang:
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Relative inactivity? We've signed about 6 havent we? And another on the way in Beckford.

And it's only July. If this is inactive I'd like to know relative to what.

I am mainly concerned about centre back. Dawson is a big miss. And we haven't got two decent ones in the squad from what we've seen so far. Could argue we haven't got one!

For me, I'm only concerned that we have only one proven LB and no LM now, at least off the top of my head although I may be forgetting someone. Sure, Baptiste and Eagles can play in those respective positions but it's not their natural position. Our squad overall is pretty strong, especially under Dougie, and I'm more optimistic at this point than I was last year. My main concern is lack of depth in certain areas.
Just trying to be optimistic as I've also found myself dwelling on negatives Bobo. Even if we sign no-one else we've got a decent crack at promotion. If we want to justify the 2nd favourites billing we need to get more in though. I'm hoping there will be something on the Dawson front. He doesn't need to be sitting on the bench at a club I think will struggle next season. Agree wioth throwaway that LB looks a problem, depends how many of our RBs can play there comfortably, but we clearly need another one.
BWFCI I mean very recent inactivity after the initial flurry of pre-arranged signings, which all look good. He's clearly got targets that he's not managing to pin down. Overall we're in a decent place though.
As for continuing the improvement, we'll see what the mythical Dougie pre-season will do for them!

I'm cautiously optimistic about the season but it seems that we are weaker at this stage of the season than we were last season. I'm hoping the optimism regarding Freedman will provide us with a much stronger start to the season than we had last season in which we looked rather lethargic come the latter stage of the matches.

I'm hoping we've got a big signing on the way, Beckford doesn't strike me as being that 'stand out' signing, we've not had one for a couple of years now. I'm hoping Freedman's uncovered some gems but if Freedman could get a really creative trickster to add some flair and excitement while we're on the ball that would be great.

Dawson's a must but it looks to be a non-starter.

It cannot .. fckg cannot ... be worse than last years pre season. We didn't look fit, or competitive or organised however much that Scotch tw@t told us the opposite.

Looks like OC has been up to his old tricks. They shelved a pre-season tour of Germany to go over to USA. http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/artic ... 75552.aspx

Rather than play against teams from one of the most professional leagues in the world they've decided to scrap that and go face Columbus Crew and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Doesn't exactly strike me as a good decision seeing how well run the German teams are. Maybe its a case of getting OC to look good by comparison.

I wish OC all the best but it certainly doesn't look like he's learning from his mistakes.

Location - Bradshawgate McDonald's. Really? Come on Michael. Shirley you know that Maccy D's is on Deansgate? Are you trying to throw us off the scent?

Is the 'surprise signing' you, Michael? Is it? :conf:

Truth is Dougie did offer me five deep fried Mars bars and a black card for Nandos so how could I resist? Cheaper than Sordell with equal loyalty and commitment, it just made sense.

Anyway we've signed Moritiz, probably not bad cheap squad player.
He said: "Middlesbrough are a far bigger club than Bolton - I can achieve my ultimate career aims here." Michael Ricketts

Then: He played for 9 lower league clubs in 6 years, he's without a club since being released by Tranmere 3 years ago.

In no way wishing to defend Coyle in any way, but these pre-season tours to market ones self top new markets have more to do with chairmen and owners wishing to sell shirts. Does any manager really think traveling half way round the world to play 3rd rate opposition at the end of the season/pre-season is helpful in any way?

That said, it is in the fashionable thing to do and I'm sure Coyle has made sure ping pong tables are available...

The most vehement are usually the ones with something to hide. Admit it now, you have posters of the man in the garden shed next to the wireless don't you? :P
