If you can stand the bankers then you can always have a drink in canary wharf and then 1 stop on the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich. Otherwise Greenwich itself is good, then a bus or cab to the O2. There is food and drinking in the venue, but it is the usual expensive shite. Last time we ate/drank in La Tasca there. Truly horrible. Had to leave the concert early and the Mrs threw up most of the way home...to the delight of our fellow travelers!Andy Waller wrote:It's the 3rd sorry! Got all excited. Word is there's no boozers near the O2??

Greenwich seems like a good bet before the gig to be fair.
Hoping we can stuff the Jnr Dingles, a day on the pop and a good gig to round off a great day!!

Greenwich is only 10 minutes on the bus and a taxi reasonable for such a short journey. I'm a bit out of date with pubs there as it is a good few years since I lived there.Andy Waller wrote:Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:If you can stand the bankers then you can always have a drink in canary wharf and then 1 stop on the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich. Was that in the Megson era?Gary the Enfield wrote:CAPSLOCK wrote:London Whites used to meet in the White Swan, Covent Garden
That was in the late 80's though
I think the Man in the Moon on Whitehall after that.

Ah, you might be in luck though, Andrew. When I was working in Frankfurt the other week Iron Maiden were playing a couple of nights at the Festival Hall, causing me to have to walk through throngs of middle aged men that should really know betterAndy Waller wrote:It's the 3rd sorry! Anyway, there were stalls outside selling no end of Iron Maiden beer - so hopefully they'll be doing the same at Th'O2.

They serve Trooper here in Nantwich, but I haven't tried it yet. I've heard it's not too bad.Gary the Enfield wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Ah, you might be in luck though, Andrew. I think we'll "Tube" it to greenwich, have a few and a bite to eat and stagger to the O2.

You do know that the tube is North Greenwich and not Greenwich itself? For Greenwich proper you're looking at DLR from Bank via Canary Wharf or the train from Charing Cross and Cannon St (depending on the time) You can get a train from London Bridge as well. Also note that the trains don't run very late to Greenwich (last one from Charing Cross used to be about 11:30pm). Tube runs a bit later.Andy Waller wrote: I think we'll "Tube" it to greenwich, have a few and a bite to eat and stagger to the O2.

What's fun, though, is to get there on the river bus. Have a few in town, clamber on the bus at a central pier (Embankment/London Eye/Houses of Parliament), be delighted that there's a bar on board, then sit and drink as London floats by you en route to the gig. A very pleasant 40-minute journey, especially in weather like this.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:You do know that the tube is North Greenwich and not Greenwich itself? Tube's efficient but buses (river or no) give you a much more interesting view.

Re: Lahndan Tahrn.
Enjoy. Beware timings on your return (check timetable under that link) but by then you may prefer the Tube's efficiency anyroad. Have fun mate.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Forgot about the river boat. Splendid way to travel

There's a fullers pub about five minutes down the road, never been in but it looks fine. Dunno whether it would show footy though.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:There are a couple of sportsy bars actually in the dome, but before the ticket gate thing.
