Been a while since we had a goal scoring partnership that worked well. Could be an interesting comboBWFC_Insane wrote:I'm not sure about the coward thing, think that's a bit ott.Prufrock wrote:N'Gog has a good touch, is quick, makes it stick...sometimes. Does anyone see N'Gog with a winners medal around his neck? No?
Ngog with a goalscorer like Beckford? Could be tasty IMO.
Pfffft.

I like Craig Davies. I like Keith Andrews.
They're both players in positions we're looking to strengthen.

Why do you feel compelled to point that out? Quite honestly, I didn't know this simply because I couldn't give a flying feck which journo came up with it and when. Why's this so important to you?BWFC_Insane wrote:So the surprise bid has been revealed by the Bolton News. Wolves have bid for Craig Davies.
Marc Iles earlier in the day tweeted to say there was nothing in Nixons comments about a surprise bid.
Once again Nixon knew before anyone else. Another lucky guess I suppose.

Just another piece of evidence to suggest that he is the most reliable source of transfer rumour for our club. You may well not care but its been debated on here back and forth. Coward, timid, not assertive enough, whatever. With the ability he has, his return should be so much better.BWFC_Insane wrote:I'm not sure about the coward thing, think that's a bit ott.Prufrock wrote:N'Gog has a good touch, is quick, makes it stick...sometimes. When it's not going well he starts staying down, holding his back, hiding. Those players put in wonderful performances sometimes, sometimes they win games, but they don't win titles.
Normally, I think his ability and his performances towards then end of last season would warrant keeping him, but £4.5m out of contract next summer? A big decision needs taking one way or the other.
He's never a 1 up top on his own for me either.

I really praised the Andrews signing last summer and said he'd do well for us. I want to see more from him this year, especially more goals.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:I like Craig Davies. I like Keith Andrews.

I'm happy with the Beckford signing. There's an article on burndenaces questioning whether we really need him. Our striker's had a very poor record in front of goal last season. We needed a new striker and I think Beckford is a good signing.

I didn't even know who this guy was but 2 days ago he said "we were making a surprising signing and it would be in the following days Mirror. It's still not been in the paper. If that's reliable here's my own bit of gossip;
We're due to sign someone any day now. Should be one the fans will be happy about, just got a sale to process first. YHIHF

The mirror don't exactly prioritise Bolton signing stories so he didn't get it in the paper so revealed on twitter.
Deals take a while to sort out. And what he actually said was Moritz was on his way to sign. Medical, talks with agent etc, sorting out contract takes a few days.
Took a month with Beckford but the info that he was signing was still correct.

I couldn't care less whether it's him or someone else, just happens to be him right now.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Confused about the Wolves bid from all sides to be fair. Craig Davies always comes across as the lower league version of Elmander, hard worker but perhaps missing that golden touch on a consistent basis. However I always was a fan of both of them...

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Bits in bold I agree with, but what he does still brings more to our attack than any other of our strikers. He's no coward for me, gives defenders a hard time and is a genuinely talented footballer who we paid too much for. If selling him brings in Spearing or Dawson then great, otherwise I'd be starting with him and Beckford. And if we're selling a forward, Sordell every time for me. Craig Davies at least looks like he wants to play for the club. He's not going to sulk when he's benched or he doesn't get service either.Prufrock wrote:Coward, timid, not assertive enough, whatever. The Wolves bid is around 400k.

A tricky situation, we have too many players for the same position, all of whom are of a similar standard. I'm sure Dooogie would rather shift Marv or Daviid, but his hand may be forced..

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Here's a question in relation to the Davies transfer I've been asking myself:
If we sold Davies to Wolves on the premise that we have too many strikers in the same position, would you still sell Sordell if a bid came in for him, even though we'd then be another striker down?
For the record, my answer would depend entirely on whether the money was used to fund another striker, or whether we consider Moritz to be the 'be all and end all'.

If Moritz is the be all and end all, I'd be feckin worried. Played second fiddle in a squad that was inferior to ours last season. Besides, when Sparky comes back, he's getting shunted anyway. I'd try and flog a couple of strikers (Davies & Sordell) and bung it on someone who can actually score goals and stay onside.

Depends what's in his contract. Wolves might match his salary meaning we'd not have to pay him off. We will only do something if it's of benefit to ourselves clearly!throwawayboltonian wrote:Assuming it's true, surely after paying off his contract, that can't leave us with much (if any) profit? Will we really? Maybe you haven't been paying attention over the last few years, but that is clearly nonsense.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I like Craig Davies as a squad player - seems content to bide his time on the bench and work hard when he comes on, and I'd back him to have enough to score winners against weaker teams. I'm not yet convinced that he's a matchwinner in a title-deciding six-pointer, but then we don't know we'll be in one of those.
He wouldn't be the first striker I'd sell, especially for a fee that only just covers out outlay – but as is noted every transfer window, you can't sell your excess players in the order you'd like to for the prices you'd desire. It just doesn't happen like that. You can make it perfectly clear that Jack Knobhead is surplus to requirements, but then you won't get market rate for him.
I wouldn't see Moritz as a straight replacement. Iles described him as being able to "play across the front three" but from what I've seen he's not a sole front-runner, more yer attacking midfielder - so yes, where we'd hope Eagles and latterly Mavies would excel, although he would also offer options out wide.
To answer RockPaperScissors' question, sort of: If we sold CDavies then got offered say £3m for Sordell, I'd be tempted to bank it. It might help us afford a Dawson or a Spearing or even a Rhodes. We'd still have Beckford and Ngog with Eaves and hopefully Wilkinson (plus maybe some other kids - Clough, Lester) - and in some games they may only be fighting for one position.
If we were short of strikers, by the end of the window there'll be surplus stock at Premier League clubs we could borrow till January. I know that DF would rather not develop other people's players but that only goes so far if we get offered a decent amount of money to reshape the squad. Remember: He didn't sign Sordell, he hasn't raised any transfer money (as opposed to cutting wages) and he has repeatedly said that he wants to improve our strikeforce - which is hardly a ringing endorsement of the incumbents.
