Personally, I think Freedman should look at the season in two halves. August to January i'd try to loan Eaves / Odelusi / Clough / Wilkinson to either lower championship sides (Yeovil / Bournemouth) or higher league 1 sides to get them the game time. Give Sordell / C Davies / N'Gog / Beckford up to January to prove a point and if by January Eaves has bagged 10 and C Davies 0 then i'd be looking to bring Eaves in and move C Davies out. That's how I see it. IMO

WOLVES have made an ambitious swoop to sign Wanderers front man Craig Davies.

Dougie Freedman only signed the powerful Wales international in January, in what was considered a bargain £300,000 deal, but it emerged last night that Kenny Jackett has identified him as the ideal man to fire his club back into the Championship.

Davies played 18 games for Wanderers last season, scoring four goals, and his hard-working style has made him a popular figure on the terraces.

Freedman knows his playing budget is finely balanced and admitted after Tuesday night’s 2-1 friendly defeat at Rotherham that he may have to sell before he buys again.

With Andre Moritz very much a top target, it now remains to be seen whether Wolves' offer is seen as good business by the club.

“Moritz is a wonderful football player with fantastic technique,” he told The Bolton News. “Where we are right now, we have got to keep shuffling things. That’s just the business we are in. We’re trying to get people in and we’re trying to get people out. Some people I don’t think contributed enough last season and they maybe won’t play as many games this time around.

“I am trying to wheel and deal so, with Moritz, I’m hoping I can get that one done.”

Freedman was reluctant to speculate on names that fall into the “unwanted” category but insists the decision to move players on will be made purely on football terms.

Of the first-team squad that started last season, 10 players played in fewer than 25 league games.

Three of those – David Wheater, Josh Vela and Joe Riley – missed most of the campaign through injury, while Samni Odelusi started in the development squad.

The rest of the list would be made up of senior stars such as Marvin Sordell, Tim Ream, Matt Mills, Andy Lonergan, Keith Andrews and Tyrone Mears.

Davies was considered very much part of the first-team furniture but with offers thin on the ground so far this summer, Freedman may decide to cash in on the 27-year-old attacker to reinvest elsewhere.

“It’s difficult because you can only play 11 players but I believe some of the players in this squad need to go and play some football, especially those who didn’t play last year,” Freedman said.

“It’s difficult for me because, yes, I do think they are good enough, but, no, I can’t guarantee them football.

“I can only tell them that and they have got to realise they need to go and play some football.

“It’s got to be an in and out procedure we’re trying to work with.”

Dougie is also quoted as saying Beckford can drip feed info to our younger strikers (Eaves and Sordell) who arent ready to play 46 games a season and Beckfords knowledge will be invaluable for the maximum of 20 games that they'll play???? :conf:
I can possibly understand this of Eaves, but surely Sordell should be vying for a first team spot for every game?

I'm inclined to say that most of our sales have been in our interest financially (Anelka, Cahill etc) but a few have raised eyebrows, like Al-Habsi.
It's a slightly different point though. I meant that we wouldn't sell a player if it cost us financially. The Davies deal will be structured in such a way that it benefits us.

Not here. Jussi at the time was our first choice keeper. Bogdan was developing nicely and seen as an adequate replacement. Wigan offered £4 million for a player who was, ostensibly, redundant.

We wouldn't have gotten £4m for Bogdan or Jussi so it was good business as far as I'm concerned.

Don't forget though, that Al Habsi was dropped by Wigan last season.

Indeed, Bob Martin got yon Joel in as replacement. And one of the first things Coyle did was to sign Scott Carson.

Nice lad, Ali, but his reputation hath grown in his absence.

Habsi was injured last season and is out till October or November at the earliest.

Wasn't injured when he got dropped. Joel had played the cup games and AAH the league, but then Joel got the nod for league games and AAH the cups (except the final, obvs).

He got dropped after Wigan v Liverpool, in which Wigan had 12 shots on target, 0 goals, while Liverpool had 6 shots on target, 4 goals.

That bloke on twitter is hinting that Dougie wants Spearing but isn't being backed by Eddie Davies to make a bid so his move to Blackburn could be back on.

Also seems to have been some change of heart on Moritz with the hint being that Dougie isn't able to bring anymore players in without selling first.

He also had the lowest save percentage of any regular first choice goalkeeper in the premier league last season.

Never a big fan of that stat, while there may be something to it, lot of goals Wigan shipped were scored by unmarked players about 6 yards out!

I quite liked it when Bo Hansen had a better save percentage (50%) than Fabien Barthez (46%)... :D

"Kenny? Kenny? Oh sorry – can I speak to Mr Jackett please?"

Can't say it surprises me. I did worry about this a while back. Would Eddie stump up the cash if certain players - Rhodes, perhaps, or Dawson - were available but not others? I know this sort of thing has happened before - call it The Anelka Precedent, and look what happened after the next transfer window – but it's a worry.

It ties in with this interview from Freedman where he talks about the need to 'wheel and deal' alongside confirming his talks with Moritz.

It's a worry of mine. Eddie can't want to pump loads in but equally for me we are worse off than we were at the end of last season, well not counting the last game, but before that.

What the juddering feck is this?

TIM REAM ON PLAYING LEFT-BACK: "I'm learning the position day-by-day. Hopefully as pre-season progresses I can be ready to stake a claim for a regular place there."

Remember when you played football at school, and the player who everyone picked last cos he was shit was always shunted to left-back? That is what this is.

We've been trying to get shut of him all summer. Can't. So we need to find a role he can play, cos he sure as feck ain't going to be a centre back.

In many ways I could see him possibly being ok at full back as cover at least.
