So, let me get this right. If Blackburn fail to sell Scott Dann (for whom they want £6m) then they'll let Rhodes go for nothing whatsoever?ChrisC wrote: If they don't shift Scott Dann (they want 6m!) The price for Rhodes will come down 100%.

Leicester have spent massively for a championship club the last few seasons. This summer is about cutting back for them and getting big earners off the books so they can buy again on more realistic wages to fit in with the financial fair play rules.BWFC_Insane wrote:Not sure that follows. The Leicester owners are worth billions but Leicester are cutting costs this summer. Not everyone necessarily wants to pump money into the club they own.Lord Kangana wrote:If Venky's were so loaded, I'm sure they would have not waited so long to put their hands in their pockets.
I still don't think anyone really knows why Venkys bought Blackburn. Apart from Venkys themselves. And even they might be confused.....

The 100% comment was regarding my confidence in them dropping the price from 12 million.

Mind you, it's possible that Venky's are paying for Spearing over a very long term and Liverpool are simply getting him off the wage bill and holding a promissory note. Or that Venky's will pay for Spearing but not be able to pay the Rhodes instalment. Or they can't pay for Spearing because they need to pay the Rhodes instalment.
As if a club's paymaster would decide to spend money on one player but not another! What kind of... oh.

I just meant that Venkys might well be prepared to pay the Rhodes debt for Rovers without necessarily wanting to pump millions in for 'other projects'.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:and yet, about two posts later...BWFC_Insane wrote:Venkys are loaded, they could easily give Blackburn more money if they wanted.I'm confused.BWFC_Insane wrote:Not sure that follows. I don't buy this Rhodes thing. I'm sure we've had a cheeky bid or enquiry but far from convinced its a real flier, or that Blackburn are quite as desperate as made out.
Effectively selling Rhodes to us would be the end for any chance of Venkys having a chance of ever being accepted there by their fans.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
BWFCi, I agree with you in theory.
But I know that that club is a f*cking basket-case and I don't think it's going to end well for Rovers or Venky's. When it comes down to it they may be faced with trying to lose as little money as possible, and club-funders since time immemorial have felt little compunction about selling the best assets when the debt collectors call - why, they benefited from our fiscal f*ck-ups when they bought Per Frandsen for a song. Now, even Venky's (and Shebby Singh) might have the gumption to alert other possible buyers, and Rhodes might get a better offer than ours, but the idea that the chicken-pluckers wouldn't sell to us in case it upsets their fans is frankly laughable. It's hardly like they're the most popular people in town already, is it?
Yon rattling you can hear is Jack Walker spinning in his coffin.

On another thread re. Us selling players to wigan, I thought BWFCi was arguing that fans are bonkers to imagine that clubs take fan emotion into account when selling players... Yet here the idea appears as a factor for b'burn not selling a player to us...

Bish. That was fannymotion, an entirely separate concept to fan emotion.

Somewhat different at Blackburn. Depends on Venkys. Not only will they annoy their fans to breaking point their manager would also likely be furious. As ever were we to bid the asking price emotion wouldn't come into it. But we are trying to get him for a lot less!thebish wrote:On another thread re. Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Again, I've not really spotted any evidence of the venkys giving much of a shit about (in no particular order):
1) Their fans
2) Their managers
I think we should worry about this new, free spending incarnation. They'll probably unite the club and be a real contender for promotion.

I can see the price of Rhodes being halve of what it is currently quoted coming the end of August
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Some quotes I haven't seen on here...
Freedman denies Cravies bid: (Source: Lion of Vienna Suite quoting BBC Radio Manchester)
Freedman denies Cravies bid: (Source: Lion of Vienna Suite quoting BBC Radio Manchester)
Freedman on Mills: (BN)I have heard nothing, nobody's contacted me from Wolves. As far as I'm concerned, I'd like Craig to stay here. This could have been some 12 year old Wolves fan tweeting.
Freedman on Ream playing at left-back: (BN)Matt Mills is OK. We had an enquiry from Leeds United, a phone call from their chief executive to enquire what his situation was. He is a very capable defender who I would like to keep, but like everybody, if the right offer comes in and he tells me he wants to go, then he can go.
I only want people at this football club who show the right attitude to being here – not someone who thinks we owe him a favour for what he has done in the past, or last year. Matt has shown the right attitude and is someone I’d like to work with. I’ve spoken to him a lot and he’s a good guy. He works hard and wants to play.
Last season he didn’t quite get in the team but he’s in there fighting for his position. If he can accept that he has got to fight for it then he stays. Ideally I’d want him to stay because of his attitude to training.
Ream:It’s an experiment. I haven’t signed as many players as I’d like to sign right now but I don’t want to go out there and buy someone as a back-up left-back. Tim Ream is a centre-half, let’s make that very clear. But if I can have a centre-half that can cover left-back then the chairman is happy because that saves him a bit of money.
I played there quite a lot for my youth clubs and university sides so it’s a position I know fairly well. But, if I’m honest, I haven’t played there in four years so it’s a little bit of an adjustment. I’m working on it day by day but I’m trying to pick up on things and, hopefully, I can stake my claim for a starting position. You want to play wherever you can best help the team. If the left-back spot is where I can help – either starting, or by pushing Marc [Tierney] to his fullest – then so be it.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Always felt Ream may potentially be a better left back than centre half even if this is essentially trying to make a silk ear of a sow's purse. It seems we are hitting a slow period signings wise. Freedman has players on the books who he would need to shift before bringing others in but may be unable to shift them so he's doing exactly what he has to do,keeping them onboard incase deals don't materialise whilst having players lined up if they do.
Continues to impress me as does the fact we are clearly signing youngsters with potential.Suggests that our scouting system has improved assuming that potential is genuine.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
The squad looks pretty strong to me. If he can shift out a centre half an bring in a faster more mobile one it woud give us more felxibility. If he can't we'll be defending deep which Freedman likes anyway.
Likewise uptop I cant see another striker coming in without one or two going. CYLs position looks tenable now and that may bring in some useful cash. Good to have some competition from Hall if he stays.

Freedman on transfers (BN):
More in the BN from Freedman on Cravies...There's not a lot of money around, apart from one or two clubs. I expect in the next two weeks, people will start swapping players. Gone are the days when there would be big transfers because the money is just not there. I’ll be very involved when it happens. I have a responsibility to the fans to make sure I work every day so that when the opportunity comes up I do the right deal for us.
...and Rhodes:Nobody has contacted me from Wolves. I want Craig to stay here – I’ve just bought him, so he’s got a very good chance of playing.
There is nothing in it at all. It’s probably a rumour because I tried to buy him when I was at Crystal Palace when his price was 10 per cent of what it is now.

How does he know what the current price is if he hasn't enquired?
