Ty Coch means House Red, or Red House.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It's on my list of Must Visit Pubs. I added it on 11th July (page 4 of Must Visit Places) after I discovered it was 3rd best beach bar in the world, that and the fact you can't drive to it - always a bonus in keeping the real dross out.General Mannerheim wrote:Had a sensational day on the beach outside the Ty Coch Inn at Porthdinllaen today (officially the 3rd best beach bar on the planet, apperently?) but it is pretty special.

yep, only accessible via a 1 mile walk along the beach - & only when the tide is out!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:It's on my list of Must Visit Pubs. tis indeed a red house too. ive been a fair few times before, but never with the sort of weather there yesterday.
you can order food and beers form the pub and they bring it out to your camp on the beach! even had a few dips in the sea.

Make your own mind up as to whether it compares to the others on the list. Each has it's merits of course. However, I can't help thinking that one prerequisite for a good beach bar is good weather. Something that Ty Coch might struggle with compared to the others!
Hope is what keeps us going.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
I'm back from a weekend at Land's End getting lots of boyfriend points for Miss Athers' grandma's 90th birthday.
Don't envy anyone planning to cycle there from anywhere, I was tired doing the drive.

Land's End counts as one of the most disappointing places I have visited...Athers wrote:I'm back from a weekend at Land's End getting lots of boyfriend points for Miss Athers' grandma's 90th birthday.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
It used to be alright when it was just some nature, one hut selling souveneir mugs and a car park. It went crap when they built a huge wall around it and started charging people to get in.thebish wrote:Land's End counts as one of the most disappointing places I have visited...Athers wrote:I'm back from a weekend at Land's End getting lots of boyfriend points for Miss Athers' grandma's 90th birthday.

Re: Where are you going tonight?
We parked in the harbour about 1.5miles away and walked there on a reasonable up and down path which was OK. Apparently the car park at the actual place was £4 rather than £1 and yes, there's nothing there. Didn't even go in the cafe/shop. Looked out to America (nothing) and took a picture with the flagpole and that was it.
Can't imagine John O'Groats being any different!

Currently in Players Bar paphos Cyprus. Hoped from the name that it would be full of olive skinned honeys with a fetish for sunburnt balding northern blokes pushing 40. Alas, there were just some fat geordies watching boring friendly matches surrounded by shit football memorabilia. There's a framed Fulham shirt with Johnson and what looks like a poostain on the back.

I was in this bar on a family holiday back in 200somethingorother. In Icmeler in turkey, it was (i think). Anyway, behind the bar they had a signed and framed Bolton Wanderers shirt, from the man himself...LeverEnd wrote:Currently in Players Bar paphos Cyprus. Blimey, there's a blast from the past. Lived across the road from my parents. Snapped up by Sam when he was released by Utd. I next saw him warming the bench for Southport versus Leigh RMI.mrkint wrote:I was in this bar on a family holiday back in 200somethingorother. In Icmeler in turkey, it was (i think).
