He used to live round the corner from me, obviously older than me but he had never really experienced death before that fair play to him he went back to work a few months later and is now in his 6th year working as a train driver and he loves the job.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

So are ordinary non-blinged up cakes which we've had forever.

Who mentioned cakes? Apart from the fact that they increase things like waistlines, I have some decided preferences. Stuff like sponge etc, Battenberg, Angel cake, cherry buns, meringues and all such like fripperies I dismiss as not worth bothering about. You can have em.

Thankfully, most of the cakes we had in the fifties are still around, so custards, vanilla slices, apple slices, Jam tarts, ice-buns, wimberry pies (not seen one for a while?) are still big favourites. Best cake going is still Christmas cake for me. Heavy, dark rum and fruit, icing and marzipan. Perfect.

nope - they're wanky american pretenders too... you can tell because of their size - HUGE cakes for fattie-wobblebottoms

make some proper british cakes - fairy cakes with buttercream and little wings - they're the best - hand on good decent british traditions to your kids!

I don't get cupcakes. They seem like all frosting or buttercream to me, with not much cake. Gives me a sugar headache as the stuff that tops them is always overly sweet and IMO unpleasant.

Banana and choc chip muffins sound ok to me though. I realise Bish is angry about their American traditions, but perhaps relabelled banana and choc chip buns would restore their Britishness?

if you want banana - just make proper british banana cake (made with british bananas!) - you can add choc-chips to that if you have to!

the fairycake recipe sums it up:
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 and line a 12-hole bun tin with 12 paper fairy cake cases. (Or for deep American-style cupcakes, line a 6-hole muffin tin with larger muffin cases.)
same quantity = 12 cakes in Britain = 6 cakes in America...
