Will he retire before he gets found out ... THAT's the real question.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Quick heads-up. Kite Runner's just coming on on BBC2. If you haven't then do, or at least record.

Think I'll have a look at first episode of The Mill tonight. Far cry from Jane Austen with life down at the grit and grime end.

Watched "I give it a year" last night on DVD (Think the General recommended it a few weeks ago). I wasn't expecting much being a british comedy, but by the crin I was wrong, its really funny and a good film to boot. I actually laughed out loud on loads of occasions which is a rarity for a film these days. I highly recommend it. :oyea: :oyea: :oyea:

Just watched the third of the Will-o-loaned DVD's, Land and Freedom. An excellent film and powerful story set in the Spanish Civil War. I wish, in hindsight, that I'd have read up a little on the subject matter beforehand for a better overall understanding, but the film itself isn't difficult to follow. I also get the impression that large parts of the film were ad-libbed and shot on the hoof, so to speak, a method that really appeals to me.

Just one downer for me on a personal level - I find it very difficult to watch Ian Hart without thinking of his, IMO excellent, portrayals of John Lennon :?

Bruce, both you and Will should find the time to watch this. It's in Spanish, but brilliant as a portrayal of the death of Garcia Lorca. Dark, dramatic, utterly brutal and based on truth.

I've just watched the first ten minutes of that, Tango, and I'm shaking. Looks outstanding. I've read Gibson's book, of course. And, indeed, visited Viznar, where Lorca was executed.

Spain's greatest poet and dramatist of the 20th century, and the Fascists bump him off in a routine execution, with four others.

A great deal of the script is clearly based on Orwell's magnificent Homage to Catalonia.

The film is a good example of Loach's collaboration with Jim Allen, his most long-term writer. Full of heart but carries its politics on its sleeve rather.

That said, no one does a meeting better than Loach - and i think the scene where the peasants are deciding the future one of his best.

Sets up the remainder of the film brilliantly, superb scene. I knew that the Yank would turn out to be a good-for-nothing shitehawk! :)

I've got the whole film on one tape somewhere but it's a video tape. Had it years. Tis indeed a powerful film and just has to be watched by anybody studying the Spanish Civil War.
