I have noticed the same. Wigan are signing all the best sexy players while Bolton and Blackburn are signing nobodies.ChrisC wrote:I suppose it all comes down to how worried the club are about not getting promoted. Am I right in thinking the parachute payments stop next year? If so, its shit or bust this season.
I don't think behind the scenes there is to much fallout. I will just be a case of we have to move people out to make room with the FFP coming in. There is no way that Dougie didn't know his budget before the window opened and that he had to move some players out.
Lets not forget that Nixon is best buds with Coyle and reports on BWFC have become more negative ever since Coyle joined the pies. Some mischief going on IMO.
Wigan can't agree price for Adomah. It is Bristol City being unreasonable as Wigan's bid was good enough.
Wigan haven't signed Mulenga. It is the player who is messing Wigan about not Whelan being too tight to dig deep.
Coyle has never signed a bad player in his life. It was the players that let Coyle down at Bolton.
Saying that, I suspect that Freedman may be a slightly pissed off at Bolton at the moment. Whether his expectations were too high or Bolton oversold the clubs spending power to him, I don't know.
What I do think is it is dangerous to continue spending beyond our means. One last go for promotion is one thing being reckless is another.

However, getting Spearing isn't likely to break the bank and we know what he brings to the table because we all saw what he adds to the team.malcd1 wrote:I have noticed the same. Coyle has let us down, Megson let us down and we still seem to be paying for it figuratively and financially with big wages for sub-standard players and relegation
I'm not unhappy at Eddie because that man's shown us money and investment when we've needed it the most but if he wants to keep Dougie he needs to keep his promises
Pfffft.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Signing Spearing might not break the bank but it's certainly not an easily sellable asset should we sign him. Can't see a lot of managers being interested in due to his height, despite how good he is which rules out of a lot of teams, sadly for Jay Spearing. It would be nice to have him at the club but its gotta be in the right circumstances, last thing we need is yet another costly asset that we can't sell on (N'Gog, Elmander, etc.)TKIZ! wrote: However, getting Spearing isn't likely to break the bank and we know what he brings to the table because we all saw what he adds to the team.

aye - if he were hot property - Liverpool wouold have sold him by now - his stock would not increase on account of being a bolton player!Mar wrote:Signing Spearing might not break the bank but it's certainly not an easily sellable asset should we sign him. There will be several Jay Spearings every season. And people will say come on Eddie he's only a million or two. We need him for this or that....where does it stop?TKIZ! wrote:However, getting Spearing isn't likely to break the bank and we know what he brings to the table because we all saw what he adds to the team.malcd1 wrote:I have noticed the same. Exactly. You can substitute Spearing for Moritz or Dawson.BWFC_Insane wrote:There will be several Jay Spearings every season. And people will say come on Eddie he's only a million or two. We need him for this or that....where does it stop?
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

we don't know what promises eddie did or didn't make to dougie...TKIZ! wrote: I'm not unhappy at Eddie because that man's shown us money and investment when we've needed it the most but if he wants to keep Dougie he needs to keep his promises

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Exactly. Even Nixon is saying he wouldn't go far as broken promises. I'm sure he's stirring it all up a bit to try and help Coyle along.thebish wrote:we don't know what promises eddie did or didn't make to dougie...TKIZ! wrote: I'm not unhappy at Eddie because that man's shown us money and investment when we've needed it the most but if he wants to keep Dougie he needs to keep his promises
Equally I also do get the impression that Dougie is a bit fed up. But perhaps he expected it to be easier to shift some of the fringe players and as it hasn't happened hoped Eddie would fund an extra deal or two which hasn't yet happened.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
does that mean you have abandoned your previous theory that Dougie is using Nixon to put pressure on the club?BWFC_Insane wrote:Exactly. Even Nixon is saying he wouldn't go far as broken promises. Yeah, you would have thought that some of our fringe players would have moved on but then we don't know about what type of wages they are getting.BWFC_Insane wrote:Exactly. He's done an interview in the people with actual quotes. So I assume he is happy to put the message out in the media....thebish wrote:does that mean you have abandoned your previous theory that Dougie is using Nixon to put pressure on the club?BWFC_Insane wrote:Exactly. Actually quote from The People, "We need two or three players, any team that loses the quality of Jay, Marcos and Craig are going to struggle"

so - is nixon doing it to stir things up for coyle's benefit or to stir things up for dougie's benefit?BWFC_Insane wrote:He's done an interview in the people with actual quotes. Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Have to disagree with this i'm afraid. The first was our player of the season last year, the third MAY have been the best player in the squad towards the end of the campaign whereas the second is a unknown quantity.Armchair Wanderer wrote:Exactly. With regards to Spearing it also appears Liverpool are willing sellers and the player is desperate to join us, unfortunately Dawson's scenario seems the opposite. Tbh I don't blame the so called 'money men' from splashing out on Moritz but for me if the Spearing deal doesn't go ahead it'll be a crying shame.
Spearing for me would be a prime candidate for club captain if he returned and always appears a re-assuring presence in a squad that I feel are genuinely talented and skilled players yet sometimes lack a touch of self belief.
Also with regards to Mills I remember reading in the local rag that Leeds currently have 6 left backs and yet only 2 natural centre-backs. With Bates having finally stepped down in the last few days and McDermott starting to build a team of 'his players' I can definitely see the move happening, off the top of my head a season loan with an option to buy would seem realistic. However it also appears Leeds are stuck in the same 'sell before you buy' roundabout as ourselves so that might be holding it up on there end.

I'm hoping that Dougie's on the phone now telling ED it's imperative we sign Spearing

So Nixon has hinted that Uncle Ted has both broken his promises and hasn't broken his promises.BWFC_Insane wrote:Exactly. Even Nixon is saying he wouldn't go far as broken promises.
