See, I'm bringing it up again. Now that it has been uncovered (see here...> viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24859) that the first ever League goal was in the Bolton v Derby county match, it doesn't seem so 'meaningless', does it?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:So what you're saying is, instead of arranging six matches, they should just have arranged one, the relatively meaningless Derby-Bolton? Can't agree there. If you try to involve as many founder members as possible, Derby-Bolton would mean pairing Blackburn with Burnley, and neither of those clubs would have wanted that - a big derby payday translated from later in the term to be on top of the potentially big opening-day gate...

And your plan would still deprive Blackburn and Burnley of a later derby crowd-boost... and those places don't need any further deprivation.

Agreed, as some would say that Burnley v Bolton would have been a more meaningful local derby game for later in the season than Bolton v Derby (to many derbies there I guess)!Lost Leopard Spot wrote:See, I'm bringing it up again. Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

I concern myself not with the deprivation of Blackburn or Burnley, they shoulda thought about that 125 years ago.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Yes. Anyway, I didn't really think just bringing it up again would actually change your mind, but it pleased me...little things, and all that.

Even better the game is LIVE on TV here in Oz, Setanta Sports at 7-10pm, now I don't mind who they are playing as at least I can watch the game!

Ngog left out of pre-season games to complete a specialised individual training regime to try and prevent him getting repeated "small injuries". Fit for Burnley.
LCY is fit but not perhaps ready to start at Burnley.
interesting! will Ngog be match fit? if so - how?
hopefully his individual training programme has included kicking a ball towards some goals so that it goes in!

Dooooooooomed!!!!!!!
Re: First Match of the New Season
I do agree, but it would have been nice if we'd played Derby first game and they'd let us have a one goal start for 'history's sake'. Obviously the integrity of the game would mean we couldn't then deliberately lose though. Obviously.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Yes. Yes, it does.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:See, I'm bringing it up again. Re: First Match of the New Season
As our pre-season results have been less than impressive (that's PC speak for sh*te) and Burnley's appear to have been the opposite it will be interesting to see whether pre-season results really do matter or not.
Also, when looking at our first ten fixtures it is reminiscent of the start of our relegation season. If we're still mid table after them I'll be a very happy (and surprised) bunny

Re: First Match of the New Season
Past experience has taught me that pre season does not matter one bit, our season which started with Megson as manager we won every pre season and yet nearly went down. We weren't exactly prolific in pre seasons under BSA yet we did alright.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
Re: First Match of the New Season
The best preseason which then turned into the worst season start has got to be when Sammy Lee was in charge. Didn't Vaz Te score loads in pre-season?bwfcdan94 wrote:Past experience has taught me that pre season does not matter one bit, our season which started with Megson as manager we won every pre season and yet nearly went down. I am. Happen to be in London this weekend. Any of our capital contingent up for watching it somewhere, otherwise it'll just be lonely old me in a pub in the big city.

Personally my favourite 2001 Lie-kesh-tur (as my American second cousin calls them).
Least favourite, but most memorable, 2003 versus Tosspots (as my American second cousin should call them, but doesn't, because the anus actually supports them, even though he has never watched an actual game of football, ever, in his entire contemptible life).
