Dougie said that NGog's hero is Thierry Henry so he sometimes tries to finish like him rather than putting his foot through it. They are working on his finishing. From what Dougie said last night I get the impression he sees NGog as our "best" attacking player. Or certainly the one with the most ability and potential.

Oh yeah, I rate him (admittedly not as highly as some people) as he definitely has potential. If we can get him finishing more consistently he could be the best striker we've had in quite a number of years and very prolific at this level.

I'm slightly pessimistic whether he actually will though as even in an "easier" league, he's still struggling to find the net often enough or improve noticeably. He seems to get into the right positions but just...choke at the last minute. I don't think he's mentally strong enough to ever become more than a "link-up player" who scores the odd goal, but I hope he proves me wrong and shows that he can be an all round striker.

I look forward to seeing him partnered with Beckford, or even Sordell if he's got his attitude and commitment sorted.

To be fair I think even Dougie sees him as a behind the striker type rather than an out and out goalscorer.

Oh and analysis - they are collecting masses of data from every training session and match for our players and using it to analyse performance and see if they can spot trends that lead to injuries.

We have employed (presumably on a part time basis) lots of professionals such as nutritionists, psychologists, soft tissue masseurs etc

Lot of work goes into how to get the best out of individual players, with individual training programmes and also working out the optimal way to feed information to each player as they all learn differently. So some need video instruction, some one to one advice etc.

Definitely sounds like we are working towards leading the way in these areas once again. Which is encouraging.

I'm intrigued (and hopeful) to see Ngog behind Beckford. Call it 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, but if you're playing split strikers (hence 'behind') and have attack-minded wide men then there's only hair-splitting difference between that and 4-2-3-1 anyway... the importance is having different options in the positions. If he sees Ngog as deeper than a front man I kind of understand his desire to still bring in another forward - which obviously means shipping some out. And Ngog would offer a third "between the lines" option, with Eagles and Mark Davies, so we shouldn't lack for creative options.

Well the full question was "we all have heard the rumours about the previous manager's training regime so could you tell us who is the best at ping pong?"

Dougie laughed and said as he wasn't here at the time Brian (Prestidge) would have to answer. But he didn't answer as they wrapped up the event there.

Earlier Dougie had been asked who he thought would challenge for promotion (along with ourselves) and when he mentioned Wigan would be strong but might take a while to adapt he also said "and I'm sure Owen will want to do better after last season" or something like that, but anyhow the point is the name "Owen" was met with boos from the audience!

He mentioned Eaves as one of 4 young players who could make a "small" impact this season (Vela, Eaves, Clough, Odelusi). None are up to playing "many" games yet in his opinion.

He didn't mention Craig Davies from what I remember.
