With the one out before one in restriction we'd presumably have to shit one of Mills or Ream before bringing a centre half in.thebish wrote:dougie seems to think that we needed to sort out the service to our strikers... maybe with the right service, Cravies/Jeckford/D'gog will score hatsfull... they'll need to if we don't strengthen the back four...
We have already signed two full backs (and a young one) so suspect thats our lot for there unless we need a loan due to injury.

aye - hence my comment that we will have to score a few goals (to counteract those we will calamitously concede!)
Re: Moritz
I've seen Moritz three or four times. From that limited position I'd say he's good on the ball, calm and unhurried, a neat passer of the ball without possessing the ability to split teams wide open and not afraid to attack the goal, though not a regular goal threat.
He's a good option if you're looking to keep possession, or hold up play whilst others get forward. I can't remember seeing him use a shin or ankle to 'control' the ball and he's not easily knocked off the ball.
My buddy tells me he can have a stinker, though I haven't witnessed that. His weakness for me is he never mastered the art of tackling, but then neither did I!

Dan's your man. He once caught sight of the Palace team bus on its way to Bristol, so knows all about him.thebish wrote:So...

Re: Moritz
I've never seen Moritz play (I don't think).. Unless he played against us at the Reebok last season, in which case, I was probably pissed up on Baltika anyhow..
But: He seems to be a traditional number 10. Which means, he's got ability, but doesn't charge around like a dickhead trying to fold people in half. It also means he'll be fairly inconsistent... (the ones that don't cost billions, usually are) and he'll drift in and out of games.
Dougie thinks we'll all love him. If the above is true, I'd wager most in the stands will be booing him by September.

Here he is, the lad. Let's hope it's third time lucky then because the last two Brazilians we've had were absolute shite.

What also worries me, is that Dougie reckons he'll be playing him behind a striker.
I think it's obvious, that since Dougie arrived, we've been nothing but woeful (results wise) when we don't play with 2 up top.

Re: Moritz
We've got a fair few tacklers/break-up-merchants already, with hopefully something in the wings to happen with Spearing, this kind of attacking midfielder is exactly the kind of position we needed to improve on.
I think with the right service our strikers will do much better than last season - we've not had someone decent in the centre of the pitch since Mark Davies limped off, all well and good having the Pratley/Medo type in there to stop the opposition from playing, but we've been crying out for a bit of flair to make this tick down the other end.
Just hope he's match fit, and hits the ground running... we can't really afford for him to take 10 games to 'fit in'

But he still plays closer to the last man than a midfielder would, by nature, I suppose.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:...but it seems to me that when Ngog has been "one of the two", he's been seen (by the boss) as an advanced midfielder. He's been flouncing about and flying around. I doubt he's "match fit". Yet, he is a pro footballer and looking for work so you'd expect him to be in generally OK shape however if pre-season is for a reason then he won't have ticked those boxes.Jez wrote:assume palace probably let him train with them?Bruce Rioja wrote:That's what I was thinking. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I did some dougie-research...
this is what palace fans thought about him...
so - in summary - he's ace - and now I am excited!!!

I feel that his performance yesterday is being overshadowed somewhat by Wilf and Murray, so here's a thread all of it's own just for him.
What an unbelievable player he is. Seriously, I reckon he is better than Williams at the moment (not taking anything away from Joniesta), he doesn't lose the ball, can take the ball forward twenty yards, and a few of his through balls are outrageous. The one that set Zaha up for the first was absolutely perfect.
Early days, and I'm sure it'll be when we get in to the winter months where we will see just how good he is, but his performances both yesterday and against Cardiff have been Premiership quality.
Agree Completely he is class that pass to Wilf was spot on. His also puts it about a bit he all round game is wonderful. I hope he signs a long term contract.
Did you see him celebrate Wilf's second goal ?
He was punching the air like we had won the League
Bearing in mind he probably hadn't heard of CPFC a few months ago, his passion for the club seems genuine.
He was top drawer yesterday.
Andre Moritz pretty much came to Palace as an unknown quantity.Dougie saw his potential and took the gamble and boy,has it paid off!I remember when Lombardo joined and the excitement surrounding his capture and this signing feels very similar. The lad has everything in his locker. He's like a secret weapon.Well done Dougie and cpfc for discovering one hell of a player!
boooooooooooooo!Sat near to someone yesterday who thought he was useless and was pleased to see him taken off - you have to wonder what game some people are watching sometimes - I thought he was class yesterday.
{gulp!}I came home from the Sheffield Wednesday game absolutely raving about him and have not been as excited about a new player for many years. I hope he continues to improve but on early showings looks like he could be a really important player for us. Along with Jedi, who has improved beyond measure, he could form a spectacular midfield of five along with Bolasie, Zaha and KG or Williams.
Right now one happy boy with our midfield - just want to see us sort out our back four - we must stop conceding sloppy goals and giving teams a head start all the time!
doh! After another impressive performance yesterday, definitely worth offering a new contract.
...
Did he only sign a 1 year deal?
...
Yeah, need to him on a longer deal asap I think. Possibly another year extended onto it.
Sign him up on a 3-4yr deal would be good. the sooner the better!!
Also, have you noticed how quickly Moritz has taken over set piece duties. Taking all the free kicks & corners for us. Its good to have a couple of players that can do this in the squad. marvellous!
Despite running in treacle the guy just oozes class and plays that free role behind Murray so dam well, superb understanding with the aforementioned and both wingers. Also not scared to shoot and has a superb left peg.
What has surprised the most about him though is his visible passion for the team and the fans, very unusual for a new player to show that kind of thing so early, especially as he is on such a short contract.
Get Moritz out for the lads
hmmmm.....The only thing I worry about is why he's not used in away games yet. You'd expect someone with his skill and talent to be able to change his game to suit the away tactics. Either he can't or Dougie doesn't trust him too? I just wonder how long we'll be able to keep tinkering with the team for every game and a) keep getting results without being sussed out b) keep players happy who are playing well and then being dropped for the next game?
saw him playing against 'Boro away and you could tell he was up another level from what we've had recently in the middle - very good on the ball, strong and can slot a pass behind back 4's. Wonderful signing from Dougie
I just hope we get these good players weve found in the summer on longer contracts, from what I remember we have got a few only on Short-Term Deals
aye - before he drops a division to find a better club!I think he'll only be here for the season and is looking to get into English football, but f**k me what a signing he is, and he's only here for a year, then I'm glad we have him for that year!

Just shows what a difference one player can make to a team.
Moritz has been superb and his passing is excellent. Quality signing.
awwwww.. bless!!I reckon outside chance that he will stay. So many players come here then are reluctant to leave, and so many ex players are spotted on match days.

so - in summary - he's ace - and now I am excited!!!
