Only today I attended an emergency strategy meeting where children were to be removed from a household. More often than not, its the result of parents selfishness or hopelessness, and very rarely does it involve outright cruelty. Sad to say though, that whatever safeguards are in place this kind of thing will never be stopped whilst there's such evil bstrds roaming the planet.

The mother of the mother who killed Daniel Pelka blames the British state. Fxck off stupid bitch, it's more your fault than Britain's. No doubt the callous cnut is looking for compensation for losing her grandson. You make me sick.

Just read an article on the economy that's illustrated with a photograph of George Osbourne in a forklift truck. WHY WHY WHY WHY? Why have they taken it? Why has he posed for it? Why have they printed it? Why?!

I'm not in general a teary sort of fellow. Reading the sentencing remarks I found my face somewhat more than damp. Unfortunately I am forced to accept that people such as the two convicted exist in this world of ours.

I've not really followed that story until reading those sentencing remarks just now. Just horrible. Bloody hell, I'd have looked after him myself if they didn't want him that badly.

I'm not really ready, Bish - there are loads of things I'd like to have in place before I have any of my own, or take on someone else's. Stories like that do make you think that in the scheme of things they're not so important after all, however.

I know what you mean, Mummy - and i think you have mentioned this before (not having children until everything is in place)... I have often wondered about fostering - when a couple of mine move out so that we have the room! (at the moment my two oldest are back from Uni and my 16yr old is taking an extra year at 6th form college - so that seems a long way off still!)mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:I'm not really ready, Bish - there are loads of things I'd like to have in place before I have any of my own, or take on someone else's. you're still a young thing and building a career and stuff - so you're probably right - BUT - i don't think there are THAT many "things" you need to have in place beyond being a good parent and having some kind of reasonable stability of circumstance to give a child what s/he really needs...

I don't think there ever is the right time. There is always something to strive for, something to do before etc. As Bish has said, some stability and desire are all that is really needed...possibly some patience as well!

A single lass I work with is just going through the process to be accepted as a Fosterer. She's taking a career break to see if it's right for her, but I'd be surprised to see her come back to ours.
Hero is a ridiculously over used term these days but it describes Foster parents to a tee for me

But a single girl ? It's better than being in care and I'm sure your judgement of her is sound, but ideally is that the best ?Harry Genshaw wrote:A single lass I work with is just going through the process to be accepted as a Fosterer. I'm not criticising the girl, btw, just asking the question.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I suppose ideally, they would like 2 parent families but with a chronic nationwide shortage, I guess any household with a caring and capable adult is welcome. She's certainly far more capable of giving children a safe environment than a lot of couples I come acrossbobo the clown wrote:But a single girl ? I tip my hat to anyone who adopts; fosters; or, works in social services.

I'd adopt in a heartbeat if I found out we couldn't have our own.

Of course there is always something to strive for, but there is a threshold before which it just isn't responsible.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I don't think there ever is the right time. I'm a little peeved that once again, the UK Iron man with competitors from all over the world is getting next to no coverage on the box. There's live coverage on the Beeb of a big cycle event in London cos Boris is having a go - yet I couldn't even find a mention on teletext of a far tougher & superior event.

A pal of mine's doing the Ironman so I had a look as to what it involves. I couldn't do that in a monthHarry Genshaw wrote:I'm a little peeved that once again, the UK Iron man with competitors from all over the world is getting next to no coverage on the box.
