bobo the clown wrote:Interesting as Oz HAVE to win if they are going for winning the Ashes back (unlikely as that is). So if they can't make England follow-on they'll have to knock a few runs up, then put us in and hope to get 10 wickets. It's not impossible that they get that number wrong.

We can still win this ... c'mon England !!
indeed - they MAY have to set us a target that is at least in theory, gettable...

but that's a way off yet - we haven't saved the follow-on yet!

300 (well, 296 right now) is a very presentable score with wickets left normally. Oz had an exceptional first innings making it tougher. If we can stay in, pass the follow on total and add a few it's game on again. If they go for the unbeatable score it'll cost them precious time and leave us less to do to draw. That's all we have to do to keep the Ashes.

interesting decision for the Oz - when to retire... not an easy one! rain threatening - 10 wickets to get... it might work in their favour to give us an achievable target to encourage us to go for it and not simply batten down the hatches... risky one though!

personally i think they have enough already - if they had the cojones - they'd declare now...

Interesting, four down for 103. Oz commentators still fancying their chances.

Oz SHOULD be able to bowl us out for under 300 on a last day wicket... but given that they HAVE to - the pressure will all be on them - and nerves can do strange things...

Geoffrey Boycott, Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

"Clarke only jogged that first run and sold the kid [Smith] down the line. He's a worse runner than me, there."

Aggers adds: "I wouldn't quite say that."
:D i LOVE the way agnew keeps it up!

yesterday Agnew pointed out that Siddal is third top bowler in the world rankings. Boycott went off on one saying they didn't know what they were talking about - who are these people whio make this stuff up - i bet they've never played a test match - rubbish - what a lot of tosh etc. etc... totally dismissive...

Agnew let him say his piece.. then quietly added...

"of course, Geoffrey, the same ranking system had you top of the batting rankings"!!

I live less than a mile from the ground - and it's not raining here! They'll be back out after tea.

^Absolutely love it. He was taking the piss out of his sticks of rhubarb and mother's pinny the other day

Bollocks - the rain's arrived. I've had to bring the washing in.

BTW - I don't know if anyone heard Gary Neville give an excellent interview earlier about his time spent playing for Greenmount in the Bolton League.

I think that's the case. Feel dirty saying it.

Excellent co-commentator. One of the best I have heard (football wise not cricket like).

He gave an after lunch interview/q&a session in the suite that I was in at O/T a couple of years ago just after he'd retired, but before he started working with SKY. I decided there an then that my opinion of him was all wrong. He is indeed a very decent guy, an I thoroughly enjoy his work on TV too.

161 for 6 and 320? ahead at this moment. Are they going to play the day out and try and skittle us out in one day? Personally, I think it's swinging back our way to get a draw now. If I were Clark I'd be putting us in and going for it. Their only real chance of saving the Ashes.

They will be putting us in very very soon.

Lot of overs left today. Could be sticky for England yet. Really need the weathers help.
