Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I agree we lack good enough cover in parts. I think what might be more detrimental though is a combination of persistent injuries to certain players and lack of form/confidence of others. Wheater understandably is rusty and I think he'll be good enough after a few games, though as a partnership he and Knight is doomed to fail. CYL has glimpses of his former self, but something has changed in him and unless he gets it back in the next few months I fear he never will. Andrews should be a more than decent player at this level. Either his confidence is gone, or the role he is being asked to play doesn't suit his strengths. If Dougie can find Andrews and CYL's mojos and get everyone fit then I think we'll do ok in this division.throwawayboltonian wrote: I disagree there, we are heavily lacking with cover for fullbacks and wingers. Andrews legs have gone IMO. He was an up and downer with a few goals in him. But for me the injuries and age have just taken that engine.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I agree we lack good enough cover in parts. So he can play that holding role, but I'm not sure he's really got enough quality to do well in it, and feel that Dougie wants extra legs in midfield.

Just from watching him. Seems to struggle to get around the pitch like he used to.
Seems off the pace.
And he used to be all about getting round the pitch and his engine. But seems very much like he's stuck in 2nd gear now.
It's an opinion.

We have a good team but our back ups aren't great, if there are injuries we will have to rely on poorer players or youngsters. Financially we aren't in a situation to have squad depth with quality back ups.

but hasn't that been dougie's plan all along - to use the youngsters?? he keeps saying it is, anyway...Relentless09 wrote:We have a good team but our back ups aren't great, if there are injuries we will have to rely on poorer players or youngsters. If you've grown good young players over a number of years you're better placed. But throwing ones in that may not be good enough into a promotion battle, isn't ideal.

Could be a big season for Lester, a few good performances could see him called into the Northern Ireland team and international football will further his development and hopefully help Bolton.BWFC_Insane wrote:He also said at the fans forum that we don't yet have the young players ready to make major contributions.thebish wrote:but hasn't that been dougie's plan all along - to use the youngsters?? he keeps saying it is, anyway...Relentless09 wrote:We have a good team but our back ups aren't great, if there are injuries we will have to rely on poorer players or youngsters. Fair enough. I have enough trouble telling who is who on the streams, let alone checking out their legsBWFC_Insane wrote:

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Being honest I think we currently have a solid squad, who should finish in the top half of the table, maybe even challenge for the last play off spot depending on how tight the table is this year.
With a couple of quality additions we could be challenging for top six, realistically I think given the strength of other squads top two is beyond us without serious investment.
I was impressed with Baptiste and Tierney yesterday but would love to see us sign a quality centre back, personally I thought we were second best in central midfield ( Andrews was way off the pace, Medo was average but showed enough last year to suggest he has the quality at this level ) and think recruiting a defensive holding midfielder is a must. Eagles and CYL both showed good touches with Eagles probably our best player although he was pushed by Pratley and Knight.
Beckford made some good runs but did not get enough service, and I had thought that Beckford and Sordell backed up by Ngog and C Davies together with Hall would produce enough goals, now with Sordell on loan I would like us to sign a proven goalscorer.
Bogdan still makes me nervous, but think we need to look at strengthen other positions as a priority.

meanwhile...
Sordell played 65 minutes as Charlton Athletic were beaten 2-1 by Championship newcomers Bournemouth, who won the game thanks to a brace from Lewis Grabban.
The on-loan Wanderers forward directed a header over the crossbar in the early exchanges, but failed to make a real impact on the game prior to his substitution midway through the second half.

[quote="BWFC_Insane"]Just looking at QPR's bench yesterday.
It included...
Richard Dunne
Shaun Wright Phillips
Jermaine Jenas
Charlie Austin
Shaun Derry
Bit scary. They had Andy Johnson and Zamora up front.
Wigan had Fortune, Gomez, McCann and McManaman on their bench yesterday.
Reading had Pobgrebnyak, McAnuff on their bench.
These are the depth of squads we are going up against this year. Not easy. We are tiny in terms of quality and experienced numbers by comparison. Which you might expect to an extent.
And if those clubs do get promoted, they are probably stuck with the players they have on big contracts, who in the main are very good for the championship, but a little lacking for the premiership. We on the other hand, can add to our squad should we get promoted, with top top players................

Even if we got promoted I doubt we'd be adding to our squad with top, top players. We weren't doing that when we were in the Premiership and I doubt we'll do it with FFP coming into play.Il Pirate wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Just looking at QPR's bench yesterday.

That bubblehead of a woman he's with (apparently she got with him about a week after he joined Bolton, and is based in London) is going to be the end of his career. Properly pussy-whipped. She'll have him move to Barnet for his next move next because their training ground is closer to her front door or something.thebish wrote:meanwhile...

I am a little lost here. Over on he other thread Smokin Frazier is being lambasted for suggesting we're a little short on quality, yet on here its all beating of the chest and wo is me, showing how much better others are compared. Which is it?
I personally think, if we're organised and coached correctly, then we have a minimum play-off capable squad. If anyone of note is added before the window "slams shut" then we're starting to look like a decent shout for contenders. QPR were a shambles the last two seasons with precisely the players they have now. Its a long old season at this level, lets not throw in the trowel just yet and get the excuses in early.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I agree we have a squad capable of getting a play-off spot as it stands (though I think there are several in that bracket its no given). The trouble being that a key injury here or there and that could be a tall order. Having said that many sides will be in the same boat, might come down to who can get the loans in when needed.Lord Kangana wrote:I am a little lost here. As you say a couple of the right signings (please Mr Eddie) and we could be pushing the top two. But we look short of that right now to me.

If Coyle had this squad, this season, you'd tell us that Promotion was the minumim requirement.
And for me, it is for Dougie. If we don't go up, he's failed at his task. Wether you like it or not. He has a set of players equipped to do so. In fact, I'd say he's still got possibly the second strongest squad in the division once we get Davies back and 1 more signing.
"I've got the ball now. It's a bit worn, but I've got it"
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
No excuses for Dougie this season play offs minimum but I think he can do it in fact we may even have a halve decent crack at the title.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
