I personally think, if we're organised and coached correctly, then we have a minimum play-off capable squad. If anyone of note is added before the window "slams shut" then we're starting to look like a decent shout for contenders. QPR were a shambles the last two seasons with precisely the players they have now. Its a long old season at this level, lets not throw in the trowel just yet and get the excuses in early.
I agree we have a squad capable of getting a play-off spot as it stands (though I think there are several in that bracket its no given). The trouble being that a key injury here or there and that could be a tall order. Having said that many sides will be in the same boat, might come down to who can get the loans in when needed.

As you say a couple of the right signings (please Mr Eddie) and we could be pushing the top two. But we look short of that right now to me.
You seem to be getting the excuses ready, yourself here BWFCI.

If Coyle had this squad, this season, you'd tell us that Promotion was the minumim requirement.

And for me, it is for Dougie. If we don't go up, he's failed at his task. Wether you like it or not. He has a set of players equipped to do so. In fact, I'd say he's still got possibly the second strongest squad in the division once we get Davies back and 1 more signing.

Aye I agree with that! I really like Dougie but we've got to be promoted this season

funnily enough, Boris, at the start of last season I said we had a strong squad - but that promotion was not guaranteed (this in response to BWFCi telling us our squad should walk it)

BWFCi responded thus:
With the players we've got, if you think Coyle is in anyway competent and don't set the the target for promotion, then you're setting your expectations low, because deep down you realise Coyle is a dud but you just don't want to admit it publically to prove a point.

Holden, LCY, Mark Davies, Eagles, Sordell, Ricketts....good players for that division. Nobody is saying it will be easy, but owt other than promotion is failure.

Unless you have small club ambitions. Which is clearly not the route to success.

Bit scary. They had Andy Johnson and Zamora up front.

Wigan had Fortune, Gomez, McCann and McManaman on their bench yesterday.

Reading had Pobgrebnyak, McAnuff on their bench.

These are the depth of squads we are going up against this year. Not easy. We are tiny in terms of quality and experienced numbers by comparison. Which you might expect to an extent.

Really hope we can bring 2 or 3 more in. I think Dougie is great but I don't think on paper we can compete with what those three have. Add in other teams like Forest who are spending, and we are in danger of being left behind.

I realise that we have to sell to buy and it's a difficult situation. But as well as being short in a couple of key first team areas on quality, what cover do we have for Eagles? Pratley? Medo? Tierney?

Looks very thin to me.
I learnt a long time ago that football isnt played on "paper" but on the football field. I am not concerned about the names other teams have, but how we play as a team. I dont get to see us play much but I enjoyed the game on Saturady as we looked organised. THe more "star" players on other teams that do not play each week, the more unrest you have which will work to our advantage,

We do need another Centre Half, a left back cover, a winger and a Central Midfielder. We do not need "stars" but people who will give their all on the field when they play.

Sordell played 65 minutes as Charlton Athletic were beaten 2-1 by Championship newcomers Bournemouth, who won the game thanks to a brace from Lewis Grabban.

The on-loan Wanderers forward directed a header over the crossbar in the early exchanges, but failed to make a real impact on the game prior to his substitution midway through the second half.
That bubblehead of a woman he's with (apparently she got with him about a week after he joined Bolton, and is based in London) is going to be the end of his career. Properly pussy-whipped. She'll have him move to Barnet for his next move next because their training ground is closer to her front door or something.
Not unbelievable, as we saw with Mrs Davies, but you got a source on that?
She was practically doing backflips on Twitter after the signing was announced, and her mates were congratulating her on a job well done. It's not like he was in Timbuktu or something, he was a couple of hundred miles away from the smoke, on a handsome salary, and yet he was homesick? Not having any of it, he was missing his lady and she will have refused to move up here permanently.

Obviously I'm not trying to say I'm not reading between the lines, but it seems pretty clear to me. Still, if those are his priorities, he's better off down there as far as I'm concerned. I'd imagine we'll see his form continue to suffer anyway as he's not match fit in my eyes. Nearly 13 stone and under 6 feet tall for a striker that should be a lot quicker than he is.

I agree with this. If we don't bring any other player into the squad, I still see us as a team who should finish up somewhere between 3rd and 8th. I think we easily have enough quality and depth to get somewhere around that point.

I don't agree with this idea that we can't succeed unless we bring in more quality at all. Additional quality will always be welcomed but we have a very good squad for this league as it is, so we don't 'need' to improve to get promoted, we just need to get the most out of what we've got. The job will be easier if we can bring in Dawson and Spearing but we can still get promoted without them.

By the way. Was I the only one who noticed that Beagrie-the-Sky-Pundit make reference in the build-up to Burnley-Bolton how he'd like to see maybe a Beckford-Sordell partnership. A lot of he research he put in then, eh?

That is exactly what I said when I heard him say it, I was hoping he was going to quote about how strange it was that Sordell was not in the squad.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Didn't see it, but the guy on 606 said to a Bolton caller that he thought Sordell would get us goals. Caller obviously said "not when he's at Charlton he won't".

Mills and Ream - OUT . 2 New defenders IN
Andrews OUT . Spearing IN

Up front I think we have the strength in depth with Eaves supporting the main strikers.

Without our defence shaping up, I cant see us getting anywhere near the top play offs never mind the Top 2.

If we sign Spearing I will be a lot more confident for this season!

He's been saying it for a while to be fair. Almost mirror image of what he said at the fans forum last week. And before that he'd said same in the BN.

Spearing would help us. I'm not 100% convinced that he's all we need in midfield. We could do with someone who helps us keep possession as well as win it back. I think Spearing is a great ball winner (and needed for that) but its not the whole story.

Watching the play-off final at Cardiff was interesting, the much maligned Farelly, not only scored one from midfield but played a beautiful pass through to Ricketts for the second and also created another couple of chances with lovely through balls on the day.

Thinking about our midfield we've got Pratley who does a bit of what Nolan used to (but scores less). Medo who does the Warhurst/Robbie Elliot job, probably pretty well. Spearing who IF we got adds a bit of mobility and bite. But we haven't got any real passing quality in there at all. Gaz Faz might not have been Okocha but he was that up and downer who had a shot on him and a pass or two in his game.

Tough with Holden and Davies out I guess.

Spearing will answer some of our issues in midfield but not all.
