^ I drive under that virtually every day. I always leave a bit of a gap to the car in front and then accelerate through if the cable cars are moving, just in case one of them drops off.

Reminds me of a game we used to play as kids when crossing over motorway bridges. We'd look down and imagine we were on the motorway and try to cross the bridge 'without getting run over'. Waiting and then running as fast as we could if the carriageway was clear.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:^ I drive under that virtually every day. We did it on the M61 ... albeit in less congested times than today.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Yep, we did it over a bridge on the first ever motorway in Britain, which was necessary for a reason and as far as I can remember has never been short of traffic.bobo the clown wrote:You did that on a bridge ?!?!?Always hopeful wrote:Reminds me of a game we used to play as kids when crossing over motorway bridges. I bet you had a real job outrunning those Austin A5s, Morris Minors and the like.

We used to do something similar on the train footbridge that ran between Walker's Tannery and the side of the Rose Hill Tavern. We used to run on the spot along the top of the carriages and then jump over the gaps.Always hopeful wrote:Reminds me of a game we used to play as kids when crossing over motorway bridges. Trains are a whole new ball game. They used to scare the life out of me. Having said that, we used to put pennies on the track and wait for them to be flattened. But who hasn't

Oh and throwing stones up at the electric cables, to see if we could hit them and hear a Star Wars 'pechow' noise like you get from a laser gun.

Hope is what keeps us going.

Back in my day we had real pennies and could get a pretty large flat disk.Always hopeful wrote:Trains are a whole new ball game. They used to scare the life out of me. Do you think that Always hopeful and his pals used counterfeit pennies then? How've you drawn that conclusion?Montreal Wanderer wrote:Back in my day we had real pennies and could get a pretty large flat disk.Always hopeful wrote:Trains are a whole new ball game. Er, no. But today's penny (p) is considerably smaller than the old penny (d) of my youth so there was much more mass to flatten out.Bruce Rioja wrote:Do you think that Always hopeful and his pals used counterfeit pennies then? Re: Today I'm happy about......
Today I am overly excited and happy about my haircut, just booked in with John for 11.45 tomorrow. Am guessing this might be a girlie thing and blokes don't get so excited about haircuts but then you don't usually get a cup of tea and a soothing hairwash/pamper with it. My hair hasn't been cut in months and months and its ridiculously long so well in need. Tomorrows a bit of a tough day for me so will be nice to have something to look forward to. Plus I timed it cleverly so Mr GG will have to sort the twins lunch out.
