Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
We're 16th.
It took DF 10+ games to realise he was playing with 10 men.
DF signed Jemaine Beckford.
Coyle got us to 5th in the Premier League.
Coyle got us to a FA Cup semi final.
BWFCi thinks DF is great.
These are facts.
Jury's still out.

Coyle got us to 5th with a team he'd had little time to alter. It finished in the same position as Megson's team the season before.Wandering Willy wrote:We're 16th.

Coyle got us dicked in a cup semi-final
Coyle started with "10 men" for most of his time in charge (on the same basis that Dougie took 10 games)
Coyle got us relegated and left us in the lowest league position we'd been in for over 10 years.
Jury's still out.
As an aside, have we narrowed the width of the pitch somewhat?

Can add that Coyle crippled the club with the wages of Andrews, Ream, Mills, Sordell (Charlton fans very unimpressed with young Marvin today) and Mears.Worthy4England wrote:Coyle got us to 5th with a team he'd had little time to alter. No point replying to a wind up merchant.
Only have to use your eyes to see how much better things are. And if we don't finish higher than where Coyle left us this season I will never post on here again.

Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
Things are certainly better than under Coyle - but we still lack creativity
If we are to get anywhere near a top 6 side this season, Freedman needs to get Moritz in the side asap to provide the creativity for the front two - we need to work on bringing the best out of Beckford otherwise he'll get frustrated quickly due to the lack of service / chances.
Spearing & Medo are fine as the 2 defensive midfielders, as good as anything in this league but Freedman needs to think a lot more about how we can score more goals and give Beckford the required service.

We had plenty of creativity first half. Carved them open on several occasions.Peter Thompson wrote:Things are certainly better than under Coyle - but we still lack creativity

The little move that Baptiste nearly finished off was as good as owt we've done in a long time.

Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
And 2nd half...a game lasts 90 minutes does it not ?
Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
I hope we are not turning into draw specialists!!
Early doors just hope we are not far off auto promotion place after the first 10 or I will start seriously to think how good DF is.

So we don't lack creativity but the ability to play for 90 minutes?Peter Thompson wrote:And 2nd half...a game lasts 90 minutes does it not ?
The second half we did ok but Reading, who are a good side played much better and stretched us at times. If anything a few ran out of legs.
Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
Pre-seasoned by a hard training taskmaster? Find that to be of little excuse. I thought the ping pong tables are sat on a pie crust at Wigan now...........................BWFC_Insane wrote:So we don't lack creativity but the ability to play for 90 minutes?Peter Thompson wrote:And 2nd half...a game lasts 90 minutes does it not ?

So basically now it's either love Dougie or you're a wind up merchant? As it happens I do - I played in the same U16 side with Andre in Brazil, he was by far the best creative midfielder in our Estado....plymouth wanderer wrote:Peter Thompson wrote:Things are certainly better than under Coyle - but we still lack creativity

Several players today haven't had full pre seasons with us.Hoboh wrote:Pre-seasoned by a hard training taskmaster? Find that to be of little excuse. Beckford, NGog, Spearing, LCY all struggled towards the end IMO. But all missed chunks of pre season for one reason or another.
But that aside nobody is 100 percent at this stage yet. Few Reading players were blowing too. They just had a bit more momentum towards the end.

Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
but I thought they were all on some kind of new swizzy personally adjusted epic super-scientific fitness regime the likes of which the club has never seen before as opposed to Coyle's not bothering to get them ready for the new season..BWFC_Insane wrote:So we don't lack creativity but the ability to play for 90 minutes?Peter Thompson wrote:And 2nd half...a game lasts 90 minutes does it not ?

wasn't freedman responsible for getting them ready to start the season?

Anyway, Freedman has actually gone up in my estimation today after that Dawson chant quip; That's how shallow I am.

Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
He pissed me off a bit today, but he hasn't really done that for a while. He's got people doing what they should be doing 90% of the time. Except attacking. For a striker, he sure likes leaving the front man isolated.

Re: Dougie Freedman - Ten Months On
I thought he would have taken Lee off after about 70 minutes to give Hall a run out or possibly stuck Pratley inside and taken one of Spearing and Medo off to get Hall involved.
But to be fair first half, I still think was damn good. Second goal would have killed it.
