Re: Reading
Exactly. He isn't SKD so why the fook nahall are we knocking it up to him for him to win the header against the CB (he didn't win a single on today as far as I saw). Biggest culprit was Bogdan. Do we really not have the ability for us to be able to start by us rolling it out to a full back?William the White wrote: Beckford was anonymous because nobody was reading his runs. I didn't think we knocked many long balls at him? Most of Bogdans kicks went out wide toward Lee and Tierney.Bruce Rioja wrote:Exactly. And most of our punts up field seem to be aimed as cross field hit and hopes at one of the wide men.
Sure he got a few balls at his head but that's bound to happen. I think we'd play from the back more though if we had a centre half who could. I mean tell me you don't clench your buttocks every time Knight and Wheater have the ball, even in relatively easy possession?

That Baptiste (or Po Tong as we we call him) likes a friggin punt too. Tierny was a miles better outlet today.

I think Moritz is Dougie's answer to the creative, ball-threading supplier to the forwards.
I'm just unsure who exits for him if he starts.

Nah - he got more than a fair share of absolutely pointless high balls...BWFC_Insane wrote:I didn't think we knocked many long balls at him? Wheater worries me a lot more than Knight. But neither makes me think he has a truly creative vision - but isn't this partly to do with what is in front of them... which is not Stuart Holden and not Mark Davies but two industrious central midfielders working hard but pretty deep, one industrious central midfielder today sort of playing on the right and a winger who does winger stuff... That give it to person isn't there... I got fed up of them knocking it long, but sort of sympathised...

Reading are a good side, it was a good game, a few decisions should have been different but there you go.
2nd game of the season and still bedding in new players, Give it a god damn chance.

Re: Reading
They did get a lot of high balls, I'm not convinced it was all Bogger either. So I have some sympathy. BUT I'd expect him and N'gog to win a couple. Chungy won more than either of them. At what point did "not being able to win a header" become part of an attackers CV? They didn't even jump for half of them. Davies won way more and he was only on for 20 mins.
Re: Reading
Just seen our highlights on FLS. Bogdan's saves were excellent, Tierney's cross and Pratley's header were superb and Medo's effort would've gone in any other day. Reading's efforts looked just as good, but I can't see from that angle any handball from Wheater. The fact the Reading player carried on for another 5 or seconds before the ref blew for it suggests that there was nothing blatant.

Lino gave it, ref followed suit... I couldn't see it clearly enough but friend in upper tier reckoned it was nailed on pen...danardif1 wrote:Just seen our highlights on FLS. Re: Reading
This is why I like Craig Davies to be honest. He seems very much an all rounder. Beckford, N'Gog, Sordell, (the now-departed SKD) all seem like their strengths is just one area. It's nice to have a forward that provides aspects in all areas for a change.Worthy4England wrote:They did get a lot of high balls, I'm not convinced it was all Bogger either. So I have some sympathy. Re: Reading
We still miss that player who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and turn the tide. Yesterday (after just about shading the first half) we were soundly pumped, but we had nobody to turn to to make something happen, or to just stop the ball coming back time and time again. Maybe it's still a mental thing. We leather the ball out and don't follow it. And some players have this safety net where if this no space in behind, they're happy. But then they're too deep and we can't play.

We do have that player. We have three of them, but they were all injured yesterday. Please stay fit, Chris.

Who said I'm not giving everybody a "god damn chance"? We need to beat the teams around us at home if we're to get anywhere. Forgive me for being delusional by thinking us getting a pounding in our own back yard against a team, who i think, have a weaker starting XI than ours, and thanking our lucky stars our keeper was in world class form.
If the best we can hope for is to draw winnable games at home, then I'm afraid we're all pissing in the wind.

Re: Reading
100% this. Made the point during the game that nobody appeared to have the confidence to drop deep and take the ball from Bogdan and play it through the park, rather than Boggers having to launch it. Beckford in particular suffers from this as it just isn't his game. Within 2 minutes of Davies coming on at Burnley last week, he'd won one more header than Beckford and had a cacking shot on goal. If we're going to go with Beckford, then at least play to his strengths ffs.Bruce Rioja wrote:Exactly. On a side note, met up with Dan pre-match. As others have said on here before, he's a very nice, polite lad. He's also fooking massive.

Re: Reading
At this stage of the season we are looking to become a solid team difficult to beat, it will be ten league games before we know were we will be aiming for come April. If we can get to game ten with somewhere between 16 and 20 points I will be happy.plymouth wanderer wrote:boltonboris wrote:Who said I'm not giving everybody a "god damn chance"? Reading a weaker starting 11? Can't agree with that. Look at their bench. Several of those would walk into out starting line up.boltonboris wrote:Who said I'm not giving everybody a "god damn chance"? We need to beat the teams around us at home if we're to get anywhere. They don't have household names, but for me they could easily win this league. Very good players at this level. And don't have the egos and in fighting of QPR.

Yes. They had a strong bench. But I didn't mention their bench. The team we had out was better than theirs on paper (yes, I know).
I'm struggling to find as many positives as other people. The only positive I can find is that on another day, we'd have soundly lost.
