Each and every manager at this club has played young players. One of them is permanently in the first team because of the previous manager. So far the reasons for this stand at

1) His agenda
2) Injuries to other players (its difficult to deal with several simplistic arguments at once, but surely he'd have just loaned someone in if he didn't believe in our young players?)
Adam Bogdan is 25. 25.

Try again.

Perhaps you could tell us the names and positions of the staff Coyle put together to look at youth performance, development and recruitment. I'd like some evidence from you as to what he put in place.

Come on who were these specialists, specifically focussing on U21 player development?

So anyway, not deviating from the discussion, so far, the difference is

1) Coyle promoted a youngster because of an agenda
2) He promoted a young player because he always brought loan players in
3) It doesn't count anyway because Adam Bogdan is in fact Benjamin Button

Deviating slightly, which list would you like Plymouth? The list of players that Alan Nixon has linked with us? Give me a week and I'll get back to you.

Nice list from BWFCI of Reading players he'd have in our team on the other thread. Just saying, like...

I don't even know where to start with this thread. First of all, can somebody enlighten me. How many young players held back by Coyle have gone on to make it elsewhere? Which youth team players did Freedman actually bring into the side at Palace?

I, and plenty of other people on here, gave Coyle regular stick for promoting Bogdan ahead of Jussi. I still don't think he was ready. However, to suddenly decide that because Bogdan had a great game yesterday actually Coyle wasn't responsible for him being in the first team at all is bizarre. Of course he is. We had two very good 'keepers when Coyle came to the club and he jettisoned them both for the young Hungarian (and he was and is young for a goalkeeper).

I think, on the whole, Coyle was terrible for us and by the time he left he'd dug himself a hole he would never have climbed out of. Anyone would've improved us. But the fact Dougie isn't Owen Coyle doesn't automatically make him Sam Allardyce. There are dozens of managers who use performance analysts and sports science. Christ, Dan's mate Aidy Boothroyd loves it, and he isn't destined for the top either.

I'm happy with Dougie, I think he's done a solid job, but time will tell whether he can actually lead us to success. He might be brilliant, shit or completely average. It's too early to tell. After going through the whole 'Is Owen Coyle Wenger's natural successor?' nonsense you'd think people would've learned to be a little more wary when making early judgements.

Pretty much sums it up for me. We have a squad of players. Some young, some old. I don't care whether the average age is 21 or 31 as long as they're winning.

hang on - did I miss something - or was it not a cup game in which Dougie played odelusi? I'm sure all our managers have played the kids in cup games... he got (what) 45secs in the league game, no?

i still think it is a bit early to claim much evidence for dougie's faith in the kids...

I blame the bish for all this personally.

This list was his idea.

Sorry to but into the argument but didn't Coyle bring Tony Kelly in to the coaching set up and then Sammy Lee as Head of Academy Coaching and Development? Or was that Phil Gartside?

Classic Coyle... :?

Seriously, I get the point that with two defensively diligent but offensively limited central midfielders in Spearing and Medo, you need creativity elsewhere. Thing is it should come from the three blokes in front of them. And if it's not doing, they should be replaced. It's one area of the squad where we're far from understaffed.

Some of the Palace feedback when Dougie came did mention this: that sometimes there would be solidity but a lack of invention. I hope he starts to shuffle his deck more often, to promote genuine competition for places.

From the bit we saw of him yesterday I'd say that that's why Moritz is here. Looks like he could do with getting some timber off, like, but looked comfortable and quick-footed with the ball and looking to play the more intelligent ball - also showed excellent technique with a volley from 20 yards that unfortunately went straight at the keeper.
