Does it get any better than that? Fantastic bowling from Broad to match Harris's earlier performance. Geofrey tells it like it is Boycott: "At this rate Australia will have won it by tonight." "England are all over the place. They don't know what to do". Next ball, first wicket and away we go. Got to say some fantastic cricket both shots and bowling. Top class competitive fielding and a great performance all round. Australia will get better and be a force again. Some good young players coming through. Tough on them but well done England.

It's the quality of the bowling that makes the difference, Broad, Anderson, Swann.

Getting Swann on when nowt was happening got Rodgers out and the ball rolling.

If Australia had Swann they'd probably have won this series.

Top class spinner really makes a huge difference.

Though Broad of course today was key.

B-hell, it was 140-1 last time I looked.

Bresnan not worth a mention?

Phew, for a minute I thought you were going to mention the cricketer who has scored two more centuries than any other batsman in the series so far.

He's very steady and his batting can make a difference.

And he bowled very well today.

But in terms of differentiating the sides it's those ones who we turn to for wickets.

Harris had a great series for Australia but then they didn't seem to have someone else to turn to for wickets guaranteed. They all seemed to have indifferent spells.

And yes Bell had a great series. Still believe the quality of bowlers differentiate the sides.

Barmy Army
Delighted we won the ashes and it was hilarious to see Australia collapse like an alcoholic just before dawn (I am copyrighting that saying by the way).

Sorry for the delay. The the power here has been down for 20-odd hours (tree down and 11 kV down the 240V line). I've never seen so many electricians in the one place at the same time!

What a **** **. Sack the lot of them. They draw wages you and I, probably, can only dream of. What a schemozzle this Australian team has turned out to be. After the OT test I thought that at least they'd put up a fight. Fat chance.

<Boycott="voice"> There's some serious thinking to go on between now and November. </Boycott> He'd be right 'n all.

Bollocks. I missed it :( Was looking a bit grim when I went to bed. Checked in this morning to see if it was worth tuning in after lunch to see it was all over! Gutted to have missed it. Well done England.

They did put up a fight and tried hard. I don't think their effort and application can be questioned.

They just aren't very good. I don't think England have been all that great either. But we have had the best batsman of the series in Bell and of course in Anderson, Bresnan, Swann and Broad the best bowling attack around (certainly in English conditions at least) and for me thats the difference.

I think you're being harsh saying the Aussies didn't try. Its just there is a lot of application but not all that much talent. Harris bowled well and was a threat. The rest threatened in the odd spell, the batsmen had their moments but on these pitches with some swinging conditions, its never going to be easy against our attack. And of course all your left handers were mullered by the best spin bowler around.

I think it might well be different in Australia. You need to find some consistent bowlers to go with the threat of Harris. Though I suspect Siddle will be fine in Australian conditions. Crucially you must find a proper spinner because neither Lyon nor Agar look the part to me with the ball at least.

But they had a really good go. They're just a million miles away from the Warnes and McGraths and Haydens of this world in terms of ability!

Couldn't be that the level of competition cricket has risen and improved then? Cricketers aren't robots, just flesh and blood humans and for me the whole standard was tops. There wasn't that much difference in the two sides and the entertainment factor was just brilliant.
Not sure what standard of clinical "Boycottical" excellence you think should exist, but I'm pretty sure you've never played much sport. Well done the lot of them, Oz included.

Personal opinion is that we've beaten a bang average Australian side.

When we beat the likes of Warne and McGrath and Hayden and Gilchrist, yeah that was special. But this Aussie side is a long long way short of that.

We've beaten them comfortably enough 3-0. But apart from Lords it's been close. Weather saved us at Old Trafford and the other two tests could have gone either way.

Great to win, winning any Ashes is tough. Don't get me wrong.

But I don't think this is the best two test sides in the world going toe to toe anymore.

Incredible isn't he?

We get a low score - terrible batting

They get an even lower score - brilliant bowling.

Broad was unplayable in that spell yesterday. They had a couple of poor shots to get themselves out as well. But on the whole it WAS just great bowling.

I acknowledged their good bowling too, for example the ball to get Root.

I remember you being fairly critical of the batting on some of our dismissals too.

Of course Bell deserves huge credit - feck he saved our batting line up. But I'm sticking by my opinion that the Aussies just couldn't match the quality of bowling that Broad, Anderson and Swann provide.

The only really big first innings score was Australia at Old Trafford.

I was critical of the shots that both Cook and Trott were out to, and rightly so, they were dreadful. You praised one ball, one ball by Harris, the one that took out Root and have completely ignored the fact that he was unplayable yesterday, preferring instead to promote your own 'shit batting' agenda.

Repeating stuff ad infinitum doesn't make it right, you know?

I didn't criticise our batting at all yesterday? It was the tail in anyhow. Harris had a great spell. Think I said that Bresnan batted well.

Bell has won us this series no one else Broad may have had his moments but the difference between the two sides has been ding dong, simple as that.
