I can assure you that finishing mid-table will not be considered 'fine'.

For once i agree with BL3

I like Dougie and have the utmost confidence he's the man for the job but we have got to get promotion this season

I agree with BL3.

Even if there are extenuating circumstances, it will be a disappointment, a letdown, a failure - and a danger, with the end of the parachute payments rapidly approaching.

We needed promotion last season really if truth be told.

This season is harder. But I think the general point is that it is only going to get harder.

Read something on another forum today where someone said that they were disappointed as they thought this season was being billed as 'having a real go at it with the last of the parachute payment whereas it looks more like we are cutting our cloth to manage in the championship'.

Kind of feel a little like that. I mean I didn't expect to be spending millions but the one in one out policy is tighter than I thought based on early summer stuff that was reported by a variety of media sources and Dougie himself on twitter.

Not that we don't have good players, I just agree with the Bolton News today that there are some players in the squad we don't have any adequate cover for.

Understand Eddie isn't parting with his money and why. Can't complain. Just feel a little deflated that we are hoping to go up rather than really going for it.

Not suggesting BL3 is wrong. Just wasn't surprised to see him appear when he did.

Any road, I think we'd all better suck it up cos we aint going up this year imo

BL3 is spot on. Some of the excuse makers who change their tune won't like it. Coyle you're shit, we're never going up.

Dougie, you're fvckin mint. We're never going up

In one.

So you've changed your mind then from appointing a young manager looking to the long and giving them three years to turn the club round and get promoted?

Have you

A) read what boris wrote?
B) erm, see A?

I can see this is incredibly f*cking difficult for you yet again, but in the context of boris's post ( and lord, I'm not confident that you'll be able to wrap your head around something so simple) where in either of those two sentences does it describe my point of view that I could deviate from?

Because if you still agree with what you said pre Coyle sacking, which allow me to paraphrase was that 'we are fecked and have to accept we are fecked. We shouldn't appoint one of the tried and tested options but go for a young manager who can 'cut his teeth here' and accept it will take 3 years to turn us round'.

In which case you'd already made the excuse yourself. So no excuses would be required now. You'd laid out your expectations.

That was on the basis of the replacement being markedly better than the previous incumbent.

There. I said it.

There was never 3 years in the offing to either the fans or finances!
3 years means stagnation because the money in the Prem will make it virtually impossible to compete with any relegated teams by then.

I'm sure it will eventually, but as far as I can tell, there are some startling similarities on a match day.

dougiecool never took us down. so its not the same.

it might be similar to how the megson outers that give him shit all the time gave coyle loadsa slack while he relegated us, but you know, opposite to that. ie, we're down here but its not his (mr freedman's) fault so yeah whatever.

FWIW, I was as worried about Coyle taking us down again as the possibility of him getting us promoted. I'd have flirted him the October before he went, when it was fairly obvious that we were heading one way and we were still in the Prem.

The objectives for Freedman are the same as Coyle had - to get us back up - which has to be our goal this season (as it was last). Coyle had pressure on 10 games in, as it was fairly obvious that our form had gone one way, and one way only since that game we don't mention, down South - which was a full season and a bit, before he eventully got flirted 10 games in.

From that game down South, we dropped iirc from 8th/9th in the Prem to 14th over the remaining games that season, then dropped out of the division completely the season after, and 10 games into the season after that were lying in 18th place in the Championship.

Coyle had plenty of time to try and resolve the problems, including two summer transfer windows and one January transfer window.

Freedman moved us from 18th to being in the playoff places with one game to go and destiny in our hands. I'm willing to give him a few more games yet, on the grounds that Coyle had something like 55 games to try and resolve a general downwards trend.

That said, I'm not noted for unlimited patience, but if we're better off than 18th after 10 games, then it's an improvement on last season, regardless of how small.
