I used to hate Hatebreed purely for their name, then I got a Metal Hammer CD with one of their songs on it...it Rocks!

I'm a bit stunned people "don't get" Dylan - not liking is another thing I suppose, but how can you not get him?

Horses for courses, Monty. What was relevant forty years ago doesn't have the same resonance today. He was out here about twelve months ago and, judging from the comments of musical critics, he's either lost it, was irrelevant or simply brilliant.
When it comes to performers I take them track by track. The Beatles were a 'new sound' when I first heard them; a breath of fresh air in a suffocating room. That doesn't mean that I have ever thought they were great vocalists. Some of the instrumental arrangements of their music though are more than acceptable. Then again, with the exception of a few, vocals are not my favourite form of music - and that includes opera. I would much prefer listening to The Shadows, The Atlantics, Johnny and The Hurricanes, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Chopin or Mozart than the vocal stuff that has been damaging my ears for so long a time.

The Beatles
They sound like a bunch of a scouse footballers recording a chart single.
This isn't a windup.

I think the lines between not "getting" and not liking are blurred. I'm not sure I even fully understand the distinction. There are plenty acts listed here that I don't believe people don't "get" it is more they just don't like.Montreal Wanderer wrote:I'm a bit stunned people "don't get" Dylan - not liking is another thing I suppose, but how can you not get him?
Coldplay for example. I cannot fathom people not getting them. I'm guessing it is more people not understanding why they are popular. Or sommat like that.
I'm a big Dylan fan but I can see why some people may not get him. He's not exactly a casual listen here or there artist and has so much material it probably depends what you've happened to listen to.
Re: Bands you don't "get".
Dylan - tuneless, just completely tuneless. For pity's sake, did no one ever tell him to blow his nose or have his adenoids seen to??
