Has Reality Not matched Expectation for Dougie ?

I think it's the right decision to prevent Freedman from buying players at the moment. We do need players in the short term because of injuries but in the long term, we have a squad which doesn't really need much improvement, so I think the best option would be the loan market. We aren't in a great position financially and I don't want to see us bring in three or four players now, who end up being costly squad players when everyone is fully fit again. Our most obvious weakness is central defence and whilst we'd all like to bring in someone like Dawson, if it doesn't happen, it shouldn't be a big deal because we already have plenty of quality in the squad. Wheater, Knight, Ream and Mills might not be perfect, and I'd love to see Dawson signed with us permanently, but it's still a very strong four for this league which would make the majority of other Championship managers envious.

I'm not against us bringing players in, because short term injuries still need to be replaced, but I'd be against us buying replacements. The loan market is the best option for us, especially if we can have the option to cancel those loans in January.

The other thing to consider is whether the board should be backing Freedman at all. Considering how results have been going for us, if things don't improve, we might have another manager by January and it should be them who are given financial backing from the board. If Davies and Gartside had 100% belief in Freedman, they'd be backing him right now but the problem for him is that he's not given any reason to have faith in him. Assuming we spent £5m now and Freedman leaves by January, that new manager will want backing too and is Davies expected to shell out another few million after just buying a handful of players the previous window? We need to be careful of how we spend the money we have and giving Freedman backing now might not be the right decision in a few months time.

Look at the quality other sides have. QPR probably have one of the strongest defences in the league, yet they start Clint Hill, who is awful, and Richard Dunne, who when he was released, the overwhelming majority of our fans said that he wouldn't start for us. Then look at Wigan, with Caldwelland Perch...that isn't a step up on the players we have. I could go through some of the other teams in the league but I'll ask you; which squads in the league have a better first choice and back up pairings at centre back? We quite clearly have one of the best in the league, if not the best.

You're talking about are centre backs because of how they use to play

1. Wheater. Decent for boro in the prem ( that was 5 years ago) I still hold hope he'll come good!

3. Mills. Decent for reading a few years ago been lost ever since

and from Eddies perspective he seen the manager of the time pay at least £2m for each of those and tell him they are the business. he's even seen the current manager give one the captaincy and another a new 3 year deal.
