Brian Smith RIP

Post by mrplow » Tue Sep 03, 2013 8:29 pm

BRIAN SMITH: ‪#‎BWFC‬ are saddened to hear of the death of former player Brian Smith.

After a short illness Brian passed away last week, aged 57. He made 57 appearances for the club in all competitions in the late 1970s, netting four goals.

I'm fairly sure I remember his debut and he was brilliant on the day. Thought he had played more games than that to be honest.

Yeah, I just saw his face on Facebook and recognised him instantly. I then read the text of the message. 57 yrs old and 57 appearances for us. Fond memories of him in his playing days.

I am amazed it was only 57 appearances for us. An unsung player, probably got caught out when w were promoted ... a step too far I guess. However, one person who should remember him fondly is Frank Worthington. Brian spend all his time on the pitch winning the ball and providing it to Frank and the big man certainly benefitted from his presence.

57 is no age to go. B-Hell, funerals are more likely than weddings at tjis age.

RIP Mr Smith.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I remember him well and again, I would have put money on him having made more than 57 appearances. Rest well Brian, thanks for the days.........

RIP Mr Smith.
Seconded.

IIRC he made his debut at much the same time as another midfielder - Peter Reid. And at first Brian looked the better prospect.

But then his limitations were exposed by promotion....

I met him (briefly) at his house at Howe Bridge in the mid 90s. Seemed like a nice down-to-earth bloke.

RIP.
... of course I may just be talking bo11ocks

I remember him well, and fondly, but like others I'd have had money on him playing many more times for us than 57. RIP
May the bridges I burn light your way

Sure I recall him kicking anything that moved in an Everton shirt, the game after Reidy got his leg broke?

Sad loss at 57. RIP
