Its great news. Like a new signing....

Though they do say back by "the end of this year" which is still a way off yet. However, sounds like things are going in the right direction with him. Football is a funny old game.

Get Mark Davies back, Moritz fit, Eagles firing, Beckford bagging a few, and going forward at least we could be as good as there is in this league.

But no doubt the football gods will be along with a dastardly plan soon to scupper that!

The Whites boss is understood to be in the market to bring in a new centre-half on loan before next weekend’s home clash with Leeds United.

But it appears he may first have to find a destination for one of the four centre-halves on his books at present, putting a question mark over the immediate future of David Wheater, Zat Knight, Tim Ream and Matt Mills.

Wanderers would have listened to offers for any of the quartet before the close of the transfer window but, despite some fringe interest, no bids materialised.

Oooh, breaking news, I'm glad the BEN exists, otherwise none of us would have a clue that every single other news source has spent the entire summer telling us how we'd like to offload a centre half. Finger on the pulse again.

In fairness LK, whilst I knew we wanted to get rid off one of our centre-halves, I'm glad the BN has informed me that those four are Knight, Wheater, Mills and Ream. It's good clean information.

Also in that article

"Zat Knight appears the least likely of the four to leave at present – although it remains to be seen what damage last week’s poor performance at Ewood Park has done to his stature as club captain."

Love it when the piece is written by a Bolton fan.

The whole inference in that article appears to be that DF has NOW concluded that we are short on quality in the centre half position. Fck me ... my 4yr old neighbour knows this and why has it taken him so long to notice it ? He was laughed at ... literally laughed at ... at the forum when he revealed Zat Knight as his new captain.

Of course we who don't know football can be easily pushed aside. Of course, we don't see the hard wirk put in at the training ground. The only problem being that we DO have a clue and what we do see are slow of foot or mind lumoxes failing week in, week out.

How it can be that Mills, Wheater and Knight can all be performing so poorly ... now that I can't fathom. But they are and I think we can reasonably say "told you so"
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

So, we move one out, we can move one back in.

Any realistic targets out there? We know Dawson is the ideal but it's not likely to happen

For me that article gives no insight whatsoever into the thoughts of Freedman, rather it's a journalist reworking old news to fill column inches. It's a story any of us might have written.

The fact that Freedman loaned Dawson in January is evidence that he's well aware of our defensive frailty. I would imagine he has since expended much energy trying to move current incumbents out and replacements in. The fact that there has been no movement in either direction cannot be taken as evidence that he is in any way blind to the problem.

Chris Baird is the answer!

Struggling Bolton are offering Northern Ireland defender Chris Baird a way back into football. From the Mirror

except in the midst of this laack of blindness he has mafe Knight captain and not unloaded Mills to Leeds on loan .... albeit at a cost.

Hope you're right though Enoch.

Knight was de facto captain and ever present throughout the run that took us from 20th to 6th last term, so whilst his weaknesses are obvious, he cannot be the complete shambles some would have it. If Freedman hadn't inherited Knight would he have signed him? Who can say, but looking at the centre backs he signed at Palace, plus Dawson, I think probably not.

I'm as disappointed with the lack of movement as anyone, I'm just not prepared to accept that it's through lack of effort or desire.

I also hope I'm right!

How is it Freedmans fault that Leeds didn't come in for Mills?

He was trying to offload Mills and Ream all summer to enable him to bring a centre back in but no joy.

It's no news. He's been looking to shift Mills and Ream for ages. It could be he's added the other 2 wasters to his bin-list but that's gthe only difference.

As for Baird, did you see his 2nd yellow for NI last night? Jesus, made Wheater look elegant. To be fair he's not played for a while though, but he's not likely to come in and turn that shower of shite around overnight..

It's not really though, is it? He's not going to say, when asked about Mills, that he thinks he's shite and can't wait to get rid. For one thing, Leeds might be listening! Makes it tricky if he doesn't go too!

At most, you might say he's guilty of not always telling the truth to the press, but that's a good thing! How much less daft would PG have looked if he'd never mentioned that fax he had in his pocket :D.

except i thought that was what he was supposed to have said - that after our last performance players that didn't want to be at the club would be out of the door on monday... yet - nobody left...

my point was simpler, though - if dougie was lying to the media about not wanting any clubs to come in for any of his players - then simply quoting dougie as if that proves something or backs up a personal opinion - is not as solid a tactic as you might think... he may also have been lying then!
