it's entertaining - a ripping good yarn - but hardly life-changing!Prufrock wrote:Fair enough, you probably aren't missing much unless you really, really, love the TV programme.

I agree, but have a Google of 'Game of Thrones forum' and you'll find what GM was on about - there are some out there who take it a leeeetle bit more seriously than that!
EDIT: I've just actually googled it, and there's a thread on there with a MILLION replies!

" A busier footfall" ? Even beats "boots on the ground" for somebody in the meeting room trying to make their mark on the English language. I realise we won't all be singing from the same hymnsheet on this, but let's just shake the tree and see what falls.

Presently in pub three out of four on a long walk. Dog settled down, everything cool, and in walk a party of four. One of them has Tourettes or something similar - starts fxcking yipping and making inappropriate comments [no swearing, by the way]. Anyway, dog gets upset, starts barking. Landlord asks us to leave. I point out that the bloke is making more noise and upsetting the dog, and suddenly he [Mr Tourettes] can control his stupid noises - just goes to show some people play up their so-called uncontrollable impulses...dog's still poised to have him... One more yip.
That's not a leopard!

It was called the Closed Market when I lived there and there was an Open Market as well. There's a Regent Road but it's in Lostock (or was - who knows what changes have occurred). I don't remember the Closed Market being quite as clean and shiny as your photo...Bruce Rioja wrote:You say that, Bobo, but I imagine that Grunto's photo is from when it was all shiny and new.bobo the clown wrote:Ah, OK ta. Regent Road's still there, Monty, though it now seems popular amongst builders to buy property on there, knock it down, then build either (a) Something much bigger, or (b) Multiple dwellings on the site.Montreal Wanderer wrote:It was called the Closed Market when I lived there and there was an Open Market as well. What I think you refer to as the Closed Market* is known to most as The Market Hall. I think it'll have been similar when you were here as to how it was when I was a kid - quite a dark place with myriad stalls selling all kinds of what-have-you. I remember our Grandad used to take us to one stand that used to sell glasses of sarsaparilla poured from a barrel.
'They' decided to clean it up and do away with many of the stalls as per my picture around 15 years ago (I think). However, they've since created the white elephant that is 'The Market Place' (Grunto's pic).
*I'm wondering also if by 'Closed Market' you mean the undercover section of Asburner St. though.

It's on days like today, where I find myself bored shiteless with there being no footie on, that I remind myself that I should record more stuff off of the tele.

Many folks when bored shitless might go for their CD collection, but then again if it's full of SLF and the Sex Pistols, I can understand your reticence...Bruce Rioja wrote:It's on days like today, where I find myself bored shiteless with there being no footie on, that I remind myself that I should record more stuff off of the tele.
I'll pop some Genesis and Floyd over, to cheer you up.

Just bring the Floyd over, there's a good lad.

Alternatively, of course, I could always bring the guitars and the amp over to yours - really give your neighbours something to complain about.

Edit: just lobbed a telly out of the window as a warning, and filled the bath with Creme de Menthe.

Torrents Bruce. 95% of telly I watch is downloaded via torrent. Doesn't take much effort to do eitherBruce Rioja wrote:It's on days like today, where I find myself bored shiteless with there being no footie on, that I remind myself that I should record more stuff off of the tele.

Re: General Chit Chat
No, I'm sure the Closed Market is now Market Hall. The main entrance was on Corporation Street. I got my first bike at Halfords whose shop was both ion the Closed market and had an entrance on Knowsley St. The Open Market was up near Black Horse St and Great Moor St. - it was open in the sense that there were large gaps in the main floor walls which werfe always open, but there was a roof. There were many many fish stalls there. It could have been on Ashburner St (was that a deliberate typo?Bruce Rioja wrote:Regent Road's still there, Monty, though it now seems popular amongst builders to buy property on there, knock it down, then build either (a) Something much bigger, or (b) Multiple dwellings on the site.Montreal Wanderer wrote:It was called the Closed Market when I lived there and there was an Open Market as well. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
