Well I survived! 23mins 40 secs.
No split times yet but I did it. Very proud.

You did a 1500m swim (in the sea), a 40k cycle ride and then a 10k run in 23 minutes and 40 seconds? That's impossible.Gary the Enfield wrote:Well I survived! 23mins 40 secs.

I'll hazard a guess there is a '1 hour' missing in that sentence, otherwise GtE would be breaking every record ever.
Top stuff, fella.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I have no idea why I put that time down!
The REAL story is I did it in 2hrs 40mins 39secs.
1500m Sea Swim 33:10
T1 1:38
40k Bike 1:17:28
T2 0:28
10k run 47:55
126th out of 207 finishers. around 8 didn't finish and about 40 didn't even start!
I was shattered yesterday. Now I'm just in pain.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Last evening on the track this year. Back to our sports hall base next week. It was cold and dark tonight. Tons of kids though and my how they have grown over the summer. The year 10 boys are now towering over me (yes GtE, I know, that's not hard..) last track session always feels a bit like the end of summer...

If I didn't hate swimming or running, you might have inspired me to try it.

Hope is what keeps us going.

Try a sprint distance, they're really good fun. 400m pool swim then 20k bike then 5k run.

I've just done the maths. You did the ride (the bit I think I'm reasonaby good at) at an average of over 19mph!!!Gary the Enfield wrote:I hate swimming, but it's a means to an end......Always hopeful wrote:Absolutely incredible. I'll think about having a go at a 'sprint distance'. I'll see if I can beat 2hrs 40mins 39secs.
Hope is what keeps us going.

The bike course was really flat. No hills like you'd get round Bolton. I was chuffed with my bike time, though.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Stupidly agreed to go on a run with a friend this evening and really can't be bothered! Hope it rains, that would be a good excuse...
Re: The athletics/running thread
I ended up splashing round Rivngton hanging onto the muddy shorts of a much faster runner without any success. He had to keep running back for me. Had a cold bath and my legs still hurt. A curry has helped.Gooner Girl wrote:Stupidly agreed to go on a run with a friend this evening and really can't be bothered! Hope it rains, that would be a good excuse...
Hope you were spared such indignity.

Re: The athletics/running thread
A more ladylike, slow 5km round the village chatting about the fair on the common, bonfire night, whether 2 is too young to enter your first cross country race and first days at school. Glad I did it now! Off for a bath in a mo. Also hot and sweaty, though less muddy then you by the sounds of it. (and came back home to a giant sausage roll, far nicer then curryLeverEnd wrote:I ended up splashing round Rivngton hanging onto the muddy shorts of a much faster runner without any success.
