We are looking to bring in Berahino from West Brom. Only heard of him when he scored for England U21 last week.

Another forward ... a 21 year old fringe player from WBA. Having binned off on loan our own U21 scorer (in theory) and shipping out another to make room .... whilst, all along, it's a proper centre half we need.
Truly fckg perplexed.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Indeed, he'd got some games under his belt...BWFC_Insane wrote:And yes Dawson was young, but slightly different to a premiership kid who hasn't been tested outside of the reserve side yet
Berahino is a fine prospect - played and scored at every England level up to U21, hat-trick on West Brom first-team debut - so that's interesting, if not necessarily the news we want.
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
He's got a belting name too, which shouldn't be overlooked.
Still though, SIGN A CENTRE HALF!

Who is to say there isn't a CB lined up? Maybe this is just one name to leak out and not necessarily the only target?

He also scored twice against our Development Squad team earlier in the season (helped by some comedy defending for the first).Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Indeed, he'd got some games under his belt...BWFC_Insane wrote:And yes Dawson was young, but slightly different to a premiership kid who hasn't been tested outside of the reserve side yet

given that dougie has signed Beckford and bigged him up - and has bigly bigged up Ngog - how can he be promising regular football (unless he means training-sessions!) to an U21 baggies striker?? have we given up on beckford ALREADY??
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
I think it's more likely he's had enough of Ngog and his mental block. I don 't understand what's going on with eaves though. He played him a bit last season, now seems to have backtracked, despite all our other strikers being utterly shit and unable to score. Give the lad a chance, why not?

Don't forget he's signed Cravies and that Brazilian fella that is more or less a striker. So it's not like he hasn't signed a few.thebish wrote:

Ngog has only played about a game and a half since the bigging up of him in the summer. Seems a bit reactionary to suddenly change stance after so little time.LeverEnd wrote: I think it's more likely he's had enough of Ngog and his mental block.
If we're pursuing a young striker with the aim of loaning Eaves out then I'm a bit confused. I thought we were developing our youngsters? I could understand moving on the likes of Ngog, but not replacing Eaves with a player of similar age and experience.

Agree re Eaves if it happens.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:thebish wrote:

As for Ngog, he bigged up his ability not so much his actual performances. Maybe it was a public vote of confidence designed to boost his ego. Doesn't mean he's not sick of his underachievement. I know I am and I regularly defend the lad.

I don't think we'll ever see Ngog perform consistently to the level he's capable. Seems to have talent, but not the mental strength/bottle.LeverEnd wrote:Agree re Eaves if it happens.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:thebish wrote:

History separates valour from vanity. If Berahino comes in and scores goals to push up the league - while Eaves gets game-time downstairs - then DF will be rightly applauded. If he's an Afobe-like waste of space, it's another stick with which to beat the boss.

Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
Forgive me for dredging this up, but you know, my hazy recollection of the dim and distant past of say about two weeks ago seems to recall that bringing other teams youngsters in instead of nurturing our own was something only an know-nowt idiot would do. Have I remembered incorrectly?
And maybe its kind of slipped the coaching staff's ( and indeed whoever it is who negotiates our player transfers) collective mind, but we really could probably do with looking at our defence in a kind of quite a sort of priority kinda way. If its not too much trouble, obviously.

It would sit more easily I'd he simply said I'll do what needs to be done to succeed here, rather than keep painting himself in a corner. Its reminiscent of Spam fans harking on about playing the right way. Ultimately there is no right or wrong way in football. Its either good enough or it isn't.

Y'know, he has some record of making absolutist statements, holding his ground ... verbally ... but then doing quite the opposite soon after.throwawayboltonian wrote:Given how..."absolute" Dougie's attitude is, something must have royally peed him off to change his mind. Now we just have to see what he's going to do about it. Hopefully tomorrow will be the start of our season
I think he believes that if he covers his eyes we don't notice.
The first time he did it was a God-awful game at home early on after he arrived (Charlton possibly) when he played possession football by combining dozens & dozens of pointless passes together. He defended it. He claimed it showed our control and that it was the new way, and the fans had better get used to it ... it having a bit of a "those who understand football" about it.
He never did it again though.
