The longer we wait, the shorter the list of suitable managers gets. If Freedman is sacked after losing the next 5 games, I find it hard to imagine a manager like Pulis would be interested in joining us because we'd then have lost so many points already, the playoffs would be a very tough ask for any manager. However, if we were to act quickly, we'd still in a position to attract a good manager because everything is still possible for us, including promotion. That is slipping away with every game though and I don't think any good manager will want to stay in the Championship for a season and a half, they'll want to get managing in the Premier League as quickly as possible.

How do we decide who is 'good enough'? If that list is simply of managers who are better than Freedman, it's not exactly a short one. Out of all the managers in the Championship, who are worse than Freedman? Someone like David Flitcroft has a much better win percentage than Freedman, and that's with Barnsley!

IMO you can't just start pulling out short term results as an argument to suggest someone is a better manager.

Surely all the hope that Freedman is a good manager rests upon a short period though? Freedman has only 16 wins as Bolton manager, yet 10 of those wins came during a 15 game period. If you ignore that run, we've had 6 wins in 32 games under Freedman.

But he did get those wins, and quite possibly could again.
As for potential managers, not much point sacking him, paying him off, then paying compensation for someone who is marginally less shit.

Out of the names that were banded around when Coyle got sacked, we "ended up" with Freedman. If we couldn't get anyone better than him then, we won't now.

He wasn't second choice. We 'ended up' with him because inexplicably, we actually wanted him. We even paid Palace compensation to get him.

You can't know for certain whether other options were explored or not or that Dougie was first choice. We could have asked "super Mick" Mac and he turned us down for all we know. I know we paid compensation to get Dougie but we may not have had another choice. It's all speculation and we'll never really know.

I don't know whether Dougie will do the job for us, I just don't think I want us to be one of them clubs with a constant stream of different managers.

Who do you think is better than Freedman and would actually come here? I'm not trying to goad you, I'm just trying to understand your rationale.

Its a fair point. What I would add, to try to move the debate forward, is (in quotes"!) "at what point does it become a necessity to consider change?"

I'd consider Yeovil a gimme, to an extenet, so I'm not going to laud a victory as the second coming, but off the back of a win at Brighton? Interesting, things start to look up. But, say, we get somewhere between 1 and 3 points over the next two games, what do we do? We've then got a run of two away games, neither of which I'm particularly relishing. If they only garnered another, again say, 1 to 3 points, is it not then time to start hitting the panic button?

Lets be clear, I don't accept for one second the argument that this team isn't, at the very least, good enough for the play offs, obviously with the right guidance and coaching.

LK - I really don't know the answer. I just can't see how adding the turmoil of leaving this team manager-less, even for a short period of time, will do anything to improve the situation. I'm still of the view - naive perhaps -that Dougie and the team are committed, as one to riding this out.
