I think that says a little more about you really, Bob, and you know it.Bijou Bob wrote:I spent 34 quid last week during 7 nights holiday

Now how did I know you'd be the first to reply! Seriously, I couldn't spend it!

Was that vintage port warm, slightly congealed and delivered by a strange looking Count rarely seen in the day...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Summer Holidays
The pressure is getting to both myself and Mrs C. A city break is called for (we'll leave the lad tied up in the coal cellar but don't tell anyone) and Oxford has been suggested for a three day break towards the end of October. Just looking at Trivago for prices and it looks to be a good resource but has anyone got any recommendations down there, or any other city for that matter. We've done York, Chester and that there London lots so fancy somewhere a little different. Any suggestions?

Re: Summer Holidays
Bath & Wells, particularly Wells (that's for Kinty).
Oxford is an OK call as you have the Cotswolds to attack too.
Canterbury ... nice itself & allows a trip over to that France.
Edinburgh, if you don't mind constant heavy rain.

It's abated for the moment. It does help to keep the litter from flying around though.bobo the clown wrote:Edinburgh, if you don't mind constant heavy rain.

Aye, we did Edinburgh three years ago staying on Royal Terrace. The rain wasn't a problem but the abiding memory is the number of eastern European beggars on the streets, and that shop with the noise of bagpipes blaring out whatever time of day you passed.Little Green Man wrote:It's abated for the moment. Re: Summer Holidays
Can heartily recommend the isle of Arran for a short break Clappers or Hay on Wye. If it's got to be a city, I enjoyed Norwich believe it or not. Q

Wherever you go will be spoiled if it rains. Chester and York are both lovely, Lincoln isn't bad, Grange over Sands, the Lakes, Scarborough, Haworth. Peak District. Choice is endless (but so is the rain right now)

They'll be even more blaring in an independent Scotland.clapton is god wrote:Aye, we did Edinburgh three years ago staying on Royal Terrace. The eastern European beggars are still here though not as quite many as three years ago. I suspect the tram works have queered their pitches.

Well, if it's raining I could brew a cuppa up.TANGODANCER wrote:Wherever you go will be spoiled if it rains. Chester and York are both lovely, Lincoln isn't bad, Grange over Sands, the Lakes, Scarborough, Haworth. Peak District. Choice is endless (but so is the rain right now)
But only if that Avatar of Clappers gets changed to something funnier ... like a person with anthrax or something.

I have to support Bobo here and throw in a shout for Bath. My wife & I stayed at 'The Bath House' a couple of years ago. IIRC It's on Bristol Rd and just 5 mins walk into the center, a realy nice B&B. The great thing about Bath is that everything is well within walking distance. A small but very beautifull city. Lots to see, lots to do. As well as 'one of the smallest' pubs in Britain. With one of the best jukeboxes! Afternoon tea at The Pump Rooms is a must, as is a visit to the spa, should you be so inclined.

Stratford on Avon. Some cracking restaurants and pubs. Plus some guy from the olden days used to live there. I think he wrote a few plays or summat.

Plus Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury (sans smelly, mud-ridden drug addled music fans). A Cider brewery with visits in Sheppton Mallet. The lovely & re-opened Moon & Sixpence restaurant in Bath.
A very nice break indeed.

Re: Summer Holidays
You are taking me back, Bobo. I was school near Glastonbury and was confirmed in Wells Cathedral by the bishop of Bath and Wells. In my class was a certain Janet Showering whose father produced Babycham in Shepton Mallet. However, for cider we went to the farmers who sold rough cider - powerful stuff.bobo the clown wrote:With Wells & it's magnificent Cathedral, Bishop's Palace and lovely High Street.Il Pirate wrote:I have to support Bobo here and throw in a shout for Bath.
