i'd be quite happy with one beginning with a 2!Gary the Enfield wrote:Prufrock wrote:I know you weren't GtE, I was just trying to convey my dismay that there are people who don't react with loathing admiration at the fact that time begins with a 1, no matter the course!
Oh indeed. I'd (almost) kill for a 5k time beginning with a 1. I raced a flat 5k the other week and was 6 secs outside my p.b.
SIX F*cking seconds.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Still managing to run 2 or 3 times a week. Stuck around 27.30 for 5k and it doesn't get easier.
At the moment I am running outside basically by a river so I am covering road, dirt, mud , cobbles etc.
What running shoes could anyone suggest that would be better suited than the Asics I use in the gym.
The Asics are great ( thanks Bruce for the recommendation ) but not that good in wet or slippery conditions.

They're dirty, they're filthy, they're never gonna last.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I have a pair of Asics 2170s that I use for road runs and some Asics trail shoes with special sole that I use for running off road.
For example

Re: The athletics/running thread
You definitely need more grip.
You should also look at changing your shoes every 12 months or 500 miles (whichever comes sooner).
If you're running on muddy trails or cross country I would heartily recommend these:

Bolton made and sold.

The trusty Walsh. They look like they were made in a GCSE textiles class by a C grade student at best! But a lot of runners I know swear by them. Never had a pair myself.

Surprisingly comfortable for a narrow fit. Not the lightest but when you're putting your foot in a calf deep mud rut you need to know your shoe is coming out with it.
Hardy bastards too. I've had one pair for 4 years. Still going strong.

One of my teammates is doing this, the mad bastard.

5 marathons in 5 days all over a 3.8miles loop up down and round the Pike. On rocky trails.
Puts Bolton parkrun and Cruella into perspective!

Tri-relays at Eton Dorney yesterday (missed the football thank feck)
Teams of three competed over a 400m swim in the Olympic boating lake. The 3 laps (15k) cycle of said lake followed by a 5k run.
My team managed to get in under 3 hours which had us finishing 22nd out of 53 competing teams. I managed a 5k pb of 20:21 too although it was a very flat course (and about 150m short if other peoples GPS watches were accurate) Still, very happy with the result.

Injuries are great for reminding you to enjoy moments like this when you're running well. Am due for a scan on my Achilles soon so hopefully I can put this 5hitty year (running wise) behind me asap.

Well done, tris are notorious for approximate course measurement, but still a very good run (and swim and bike) nonetheless.Gary the Enfield wrote:Tri-relays at Eton Dorney yesterday (missed the football thank feck)

Bodes well for the next 5k race.

I'm marshalling parkrun again and resting up for the Swinton 10M on Sunday, my first at that distance for 11 years. Sore legs Monday methinks

You looking at sub 60 for the 10? Good luck.
I may be up in a couple of weeks myself to re-aquaint myself with Cruella.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I usually go to parkrun even if not running due to club races, as my sister Mum and niece all do it, so let me know and say hi if you are there , same for mrkint.Gary the Enfield wrote:The 5k is my club's monthly handicap.LeverEnd wrote:Where at? Yes will try for sub 60, go off at that pace and see if I can hang on. ran 23.01 for 6.6k relay leg at weekend, which I'm pleased with (if it's accurate).

Re: The athletics/running thread
Settled then.
It looks like I'm definitely up on the 5th and 6th so I'll do the Parkrun. I'll be the fat knacker in the Eddie Stobart team colours (not really but you'll see what I mean when you see our team vest).
Looking forward to it now. Enjoy Sunday.

Re: The athletics/running thread
I'm intrigued as to your vest colours! Are you definitely doing it? I'll be there, was going to marshal again but now pacing my sister, she's trying to beat her 27:53 PB. Racing at Gin Pit Village Sunday.
I'll make myself obvious to you and mrkint by wearing a vintage Wanderers away shirt.

Definitely doing it.
My team colours basically green and white but the shading on the green reminds me of Eddie Stobart's Livery.
It also has Trent Park front and back. Come and say hello.
