Isn't it? He said that there's only so much you can do with players in training if they're not responding. He then continued to pick the players that he'd inherited, sometimes ahead of players he'd signed.BWFC_Insane wrote:That isn't what was said quite now was it?BL3 wrote:I remember him saying that he'd done as much as he could with certain players and then he continued to pick them. Like i said, is there really any strategy in place at all, or is he just making it up as he goes along?BWFC_Insane wrote:He was fairly critical after the Blackburn game and then people said he was in danger of losing the dressing roomBruce Rioja wrote:To be fair, I'm not sure he could've said much else.BL3 wrote: But Dougie said he was happy with the squad when he arrived.
It is a difficult balancing act.

AndAll in all I'm disappointed in the result and the individual performances. We have to try and recruit which is difficult. We have to bring in a certain type of player who shows enough hunger for this football club.
We have got to get personnel in who want to be in the team and want to fight for the team. You saw today there were individuals out there who were more concerned with their own back rather than others. And that is disappointing. I have always felt we need to keep on recruiting. If we don’t, people might not want to come to the football club. I have never changed my mind; we just need the ability to do that. I will be doing my very best to change things round.

...and then he continued to pick the same players, sometimes ahead of players he'd signed. Is any of this sinking in? Anything at all?

He picked the same players until he was able/allowed to sign the three he's now brought into the team. I'd say that is fairly straightforwards.BL3 wrote:...and then he continued to pick the same players, sometimes ahead of players he'd signed. Is any of this sinking in? Anything at all?
Re: Liam Feeney
He didn't have to pick them. For the umpteenth time, he chose to pick them ahead of some of his own signings. Hall, Medo and Beckford were all on the bench as recently as the Brighton game. This game took place after the Blackburn game.BWFC_Insane wrote:He picked the same players until he was able/allowed to sign the three he's now brought into the team. Re: Liam Feeney
It's the same reason that once Coyle gets his chance to 'make his mark' on Wigan's squad they'll become dogshit just the same as we did...BWFC_Insane wrote:I don't think managers are purely sacked on points per game. Not at a relatively early stage at least.BL3 wrote: Correct but Dougie was brought in to 'get us back on track'. What was the point of making the change otherwise?
I don't think Coyle went merely because we'd got 11 from 10 or whatever. Nor did Lee go merely because we had 5 from 10.
Coyle went because he'd had the time to build a squad here (3 years) had said it was "his dream squad" and having been relegated the season before despite having a large wage bill was expected to do much better with "his squad" at a lower level.
Lee went because it was utter chaos behind the scenes (and in front of the scenes for that matter) with disgruntled players sounding off left right and centre.
My sense is that sticking with Dougie until we absolutely have no choice but to get rid (if it ever comes to that) is the right thing to do.
But bottom line is that it is entirely up to Eddie Davies. I have no idea what he is thinking or what he plans. But so far the only signs are that the club and Eddie are backing Dougie. So whether right or wrong there will be a reason behind that.

Feeney appears to be a great find as makes us much more threatening going forward. Beckford should be loving this.

I'll love Beckford if he follows his first with another 15 or moreBicky wrote:Feeney appears to be a great find as makes us much more threatening going forward. Beckford should be loving this.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

(in my book - hitting the bar or the post is a miss! Am tempted - for Ngog's ears - to suggest that hitting the goalie is also a miss!)

Re: Liam Feeney
Feeney certainly seems to be getting stuck in!
Alex Baptiste and Liam Feeney visited The Gates Primary School after training on Tuesday to participate in an after-school sports session delivered by Bolton Wanderers Community Trust.

(note Etihad wanker on the end looking aloof!)
